Seeking Inexpensive Childrens Bedroom Furniture in Philadelphia

My not so little 6 year old boy is getting a new bed. He wants one that looks like just the top of a bunk bed with space underneath for either a fold out bed or a desk or both. Hope that makes sense? Any ideas where I can get an inexpensive one?

What can I do next?

IKEA - in all things IKEA - inexpensive, care of the environment, cool designs. Plus you can go online and see what they have wherever you are. Two stores in the Philly area.

Try IKEA. You can look at all their products online, and give your husband specific item numbers or print off the information. The furniture does need to be put together. We have IKEA furniture in both kids bedrooms - 12 yo boy and 8 yo girl. They have lots of decorative things that you can get with the kids once you are more settled to personalize the rooms.
Have Fun.

You're looking for a loft bed. I'd definitely check out Ikea first.

Good luck! I always wanted one of those too!

Where in Philly will you be? I suggest IKEA, which has a store in South Philly and one right outside the city, northwest, in Conshohocken. Or, try Craig's List for Philadelphia, for used furniture. Good luck and enjoy Philly. It's a great city!

Check out IKEA. They have really good prices. I would recommend checking it out though, some of it can be cheaply made.

hi B.,

we've been in the market recently for furniture, and there's a place called American Signature Furniture http://www.asfurniture.com/ (used to be Rooms Today) in the plymouth meeting area - in the target/best buy shopping center. i've found their prices to be very reasonable, and they have a desk/bed like you describe.

other than that, my suggestions are to troll www.craigslist.org and also to consider building one yourself. if it is a bunkbed/desk you are trying to create, my former roommate made the same thing from a wooden futon frame and bought the wood for underneath. it wasn't shiny and beautiful, but made efficient space and was totally workable.

just some suggestions.

Dear B.,

So happy you will be joining us here in the USA!

Just about all of my family is scattered all over England, and I am so pleased that in this day in age we can communicate regularly via the internet. What a difference it has made.

At any rate, I see that you have a lot of good recommendations here and I have one to add so please click on this link: http://www.collegebedlofts.com/

The quality looks a lot nicer that what you get at IKEA plus there is more included. In both instances (either IKEA or College Beds) assembly is required.

Good Luck and Welcome to the US!

It's pretty hard to find good furniture at good price. Inexpensive can have different meanings to different people..A good store would be Pottery Barn Kids. Here is a link to their kids beds http://www.potterybarnkids.com/shop/k/frn/frnbtr/index.cfm
Just to let you know, in here, the furniture tends to be more bulky compared to the European one. If you find something there that you like, see if they have a representative in USA. You can always get order it there. If there is a representative in USA, the shipping is usually around 10% of the total cost.

Good luck!
