My husband is a roofing contractor turned financial planner, but he would be happy to come and take a look at your roof. He is pretty good at detecting the source of a leak. His name is Wendall and you may reach him at ____@____.com.

Hi D., Sorry about your troubles. I don't actually know of someone who can fix your problems with the house but I do have items of absolute, unquestionable importance when hiring contractors. Please please please and I'll say it again, PLEASE make sure that whomever you hire is a licensed contractor!!! Either check them out on the Oregon Construction Contractors website or call them ###-###-####). Make sure that their bond and/or insurance isn't going to cancel within the time it'll take them do make the necessary repairs. Also check to see if they've had any bond claims with the CCB. Frequency of bond claims can give you a clue as to how they operate their business. Lastly, make sure that when you go to hire someone, that you have a signed contract with them. NO HANDSHAKE DEALS! Gone are the days that contractors do what they say they're going to do & if they make mistakes, they fix them. I work in the insurance industry specifically with construction contractors and although there are many reputable businesses, there's enough that aren't that sours the industry. Not to mention that roofing work is high risk compared to say interior work and if done wrong, could cause more problems than when you started. Good luck and I really hope this helps. Feel free to email me if you have any other questions about verifying contractors credibility. :)

There's a great web sight called Service Magic (you should be able to google it) they do all the leg work for you, they list any kind of home repair help you may need, from flooring experts to all around handy men, it's a free service and they only list licensed and bonded professionals and you can read reviews from former customers. I even got a phone call after using them asking if everything was going well with our reno and if we needed any help.

I just have one tidbit of advice. Check out the Oregon CCB website so make sure your contractor is licensed, and insured, if you do hire one. Sometimes their licence is lapsed because of insurance lapse, or they have had a judgement against them, but be sure if you are interviewing contractors to ask for a business card and for them to give you their CCB license number. The you can go to the website and check and make sure their license and insurance are up to date and they don't have any fines or judgements against them. Anyone working on that kind of job on your house should be licensed!!!
