I just moved to Newton Highlands and I need to find some really good grocery stores and supermarkets. I did find a nearby Whole Foods but it was a bit small and quite pricey. Are there other supermarkets like Stop N Shop or like it nearby?

I am also looking to find a really good Asian store.

Thank you for your time and help.

Peace & Blessings,
L.

Welcome to the area!! I am very familiar with Newton. There is a Shaw's near you on rt. 30, towards Newton Center and Newtonville. There is a Stop & Shop in Watertown, but it's on the Newton/Waltham/Watertown line technically, on Pleasant Street. I think it would take you about 10 min. to get there - just do a map search for directions to be sure. These are the two that come to my mind that would be closest to you. I also recommend Trader Joe's, which is in Newton further down past Whole Foods but headed towards Newtonville and Newton Center and away from the highway interchange that Whole Foods is close to. Trader Joe's is all the benefits of natrual foods with no chemicals or additives, but their prices are lower than Whole Foods. They don't have the amazing medicinal/homeopathic section that Whole Foods has, but I love their food and go to the one near me in Arlington once a week along with the "regular" grocery store. Hope this helps! Happy shopping!

Hi L. - You have to check out Russo's produce market! It's on 560 Pleasant St on the Waltham/Watertown line. Fresh, high quality, excellent proces, and excellent selection of asian veggies/tofu. They also have a nice bakery and prepared meals. It gets pretty crowded, but worth it! If you celebrate the Lunar New year - Happy Year of the Ox! I used to work in Newton Upper Falls & also in Newtonville. been out of the area about 3 yrs now but I loved Roche Brothers, it is in Needham. cross over Rte 128 from Staples heading into Needham & just go straight. It will be on the right hand side of the road. In Newtonville I used Shaw's/Star Market which sits over the mass pike. I think it is off Walnut St if my memory serves me correctly.

I'm not to familiar with supermarkets in the Newton Highland area but I love Russo's in Watertown (border of Newton and Watertow), they specialize in produce, they also sell some meats but a small selection. They have tons of fruits and veggies, they have a cheese counter, deli, prepared foods, bakery, and they have a decent Asian selection of veggies too. http://www.russos.com/. They are really reasonable priced for produce. There is a Stop N Shop right down the street from here too so you can go to both. I find myself going to Russos for produce and the supermarket for my other items. As far as Asian markets, I go to 88 in Allston, intersection of Brighton Ave. and Comm Ave. They are going thru a reno right now so it is not as stocked as they can be but they'll have the basics. Hope this helps even though they aren't in Newton Highland.
