My son loves the Little Critter books by Mercer Mayer. I love the way its written alomst like a 4 year old would think. I really enjoy the books by (can't think of the first name ) Munch, I know one of his books is called "Thomas and the snowsuit". Those are my two recommendations.

The Berinstein Bears, and Keven Henkes books. While Lily's Purple Plastic Purse may not be geared to boys, Chester's Way and Owen are very cute for boys.

My 13-year old daughter was talking with me the other day about books I use to read to her when she was 3. We often watch my nephews who are 2 and 5 years old now. She told me the books I read to her that she loved the most and that taught her the most were the Grolier Magic Castle books. The whole series is expensive but it is worth it. It is $6.98 per month for each book. I think the series consists of 24 books. http://shop.scholastic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Prod...

I have always loved "Where the Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sednak.

"The Polar Express" by Chris van Allsberg is a little long, but it's a great story and the illustrations are beautiful.

I get a big kick out of Sandra Boyton's books, they're short and sweet and the pictures are funny my favorite is "But not the Hippopotamus".

Ian Falconer's books about Olivia get my girls (4 and 2)giggling like crazy (it's a little girl pig, the books aren't too girly though, she has a little brother).

Peter Spier has some books without words, I have "Rain" it's about a brother and sister and what they do on a rainy day. He has one about Noah's Ark and possibly others. I like them because you can just talk about the pictures with the kids, it helps my eldest daughter not to be too frustrated about not being able to read too well yet. They're also good because you can drag them out and make them take a long time or whip through them quickly, if you don't have much time.

My son who is 9 now loved and still loves the Eric Carle books.. When he was younger he loved the brown bear brown bear, polar bear polar bear and panda bear panda bear ones.. But all of Eric Carle books are awsome. Also the Little Critters books are awsome as well he really likes those ones..
The froggy series are also a good one the tapes for those are cute too...
They also have some easy to read books with great pictures about scooby doo and trucks and that kind of stuff that boys seem to really enjoy...
I get all my books from the second hand stores to get em cheaper or I just go to the library they have all the books Ive listed there for sure... Kids like to check out thier own books and that way you wont have to keep rteading the same books over and over again.... It makes em feel good to have thier very own library card..

Wow so many to choose from... We really like Animalia by Graeme Base. My son is also very fond of the old classic Cars and Trucks and Things That Go by Richard Scarry. Oops now I'm drawing a blank. Well thats a start, I'm sure other moms will weigh in too.

Anything by Eric Carle -- Our favorite was the Very Hungry Caterpillar. Anything by Tomi DePaolo (sp?). We also love stories by Jan Brett -- her illustrations are magical. Another thing that I started when my kids were young is I have a basket of Christmas storybooks that I only bring out on December 1st -- I waited until Day after Christmas sales and bought them 1/2 price, usually or sometimes even picked up some really nice books at garage sales. My kids loved when I brought out the Christmas basket. Now that they're teenagers, I still bring out the basket for little visitors. I didn't bring it out this year thinking they were too old now, and the youngest (15) asked me where it was and got mad that I didn't put it out! So I bring it out no matter what!

Hi A. -

I have a 3 1/2 year old boy and a 2 year old boy. They love trucks, cars, and dogs, so I searched for a line that would really focus on what they like and I think the USBORNE line of books are great! They have a TON of books for boys. I had a party earlier this week and signed up to be a consultant, so I could get a discount on the books because I love them so much. You can check out the of books at: www.ubah.com/L2487 My sons also seem to really like the Scholastic line of books as well. Happy reading!

dr. seuss books. Danny the dinosaur. clifford books, fairy tale collection book and dora the explorer are all ones my 3.5 year old boy likes. Dora the explorer is more interactive. Clifford books are the easy to read and remember books. Dr. Seuss is the one that shows you that reading and words are fun and not hard.

My son will be turning 3 in a couple weeks. We've recently discovered a bunch of fun books through Usborne. The have a lot of preschool books on various topics. My son is big into vehicles and construction trucks and they have this really neat workbook type book "Machines that Work" that describes so many of them and what they are for/do. I also like this book called Ted and Friends which includes 4 short stories. There is also a series on professions: doctor, vet, teacher, farmer, fireman, etc. that are very age appropriate. I have purchased a CD and book that go together about trains. He'll get it for his birthday. If you want to look at some of them online you can check out my friend's web site at www.usbornebird.com. Email me if you want her phone number. It's great when a parent takes the time to read to/with their children. J.

I recommend many of the books by Usborne Books at Home. I'm a consultant for this company, and I also have a 3-1/2 year old son. He LOVES their books! I highly recommend the Dinosaur Luxury Lift-the-Flap book, Under the Ground, Ted & Friends (a phonics reader) and the Farmyard Tales series. The books have amazing illustrations, and are educational - although the kids don't realize that! :) For more info and titles, you can browse my website at www.ubah.com/g2687. Good luck!

I also recommend one of my personal favorites, Dr. Suess. Can't go wrong with a classic!

The best tip that I can give you is to go to the library and take a look at the books there. You can tell the ones that were others favorite by the damage that is done by them. My mother-in-law works at a library and she gave me this tip and is always giving me list of books to consider! My boys love the "Froggy" series...Froggy gos to the doctor, froggy learns to swim and more!!!!
