Anyone know of a good preschool in Ridgewood NJ?
My husband has been relocated for work and we are moving to Ridgewood in August. I would love to find a good preschool for my 3 year old daughter. She needs the interaction with other kids and adults and I need a few hours to myself each week. Does anyone know anything about the nursery program at the YWCA?
Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thanks for all of your input and ideas. We moved up 2 days ago and visited Ridgewood Co-op today and really liked it. I signed my daughter up before we left! Feeling better and better about the move and very happy that my daughter will be in a good place a few mornings a week! Thanks!

Hi M. H. - I am a psychologist and I live and work in Ridgewood for the past 8 years. It was an adjustment after living in NYC, but it's a great town with lots to offer. I'd recommend joining the newcomers club for both you and your kids to meet people. Both my kids (now 7 and 10) went to the YJCC in Washington Township for nursery school and it's a great program with lots to offer (swimming, arts, music, loads of enrichment options), but has Jewish religious/cultural overlay so that might not be for you. My friends have been happy with Green Twig Montessori in Midland Park, West Side Presbyterian, Ridgewood Co-op, and Montessori Learning Center. I'd recommend a visit to the ones you're interested in if that's posssible so you can see what might the best fit for your daughter. They all have great reputations and you really can't go wrong. Hope that helps -

Hi M.,

I live in ridgewood (as of last year) and I have a 2 yr old. I did a lot of research and found/heard accolades for green twig in midland park and ridgewood montessori and ridgewood coop (depending on your style of parenting). The Y is good for a class or two but not recommended as a preschool...also there is a Y in washington township nearby which has a host of enrichment classes available if you want both kids in same building....

my daughter is going to barnert temple preschool in frnaklin lakes which is wonderful but religious so i dont know if it would work for you.

ridgewood is an excellent town! lots of kid-friendly activities! do join newcomers as tehy set up playdates for similar-aged kids in your part of town. and they organize kids events for all holidays...

good luck!

Hi M., congrats Ridgewood is a great area! My son went to the YWCA mommy and me program and then the preschool. I loved it. He had Ms Elaine and Ms Cindy, two different personalities which made for a great program as well as they were actually learning. I live in Oradell, and when my 2nd child was born it was just too long to get them there by 9:00am otherwise I would have continued. Call now and ask for Pat Finn (if she is still there) b/cause they used to have a waitlist. If you need more info please feel free to contact me. L.

I am not sure about a preschool specifically in Ridgewood but I do know that the Montessori schools are one of the best forms of education for our little ones. My son is only 2 1/2 and he goes to the Rainbow Montessori in Clifton and he has learned a tremendous amount within the past year that he has been there. Researching the Montessori schools in your area is the best advise I can give you. Good luck with your endeavor!
