I frequently listen to audiobooks when I commute to work-does anyone have any suggestions for good books? I like just about anything except science fiction.
Thanks!!!

I recommend the Janet Evanovich books. 'One for the Money' 'Two for the Show' and the rest of the series. They are laugh out loud funny and really interesting! Enjoy!

My FAVORITE audiobooks are actually kids books-- the Redwall series by Brian Jacques-- it's done by a full cast of Brits-- between the awesome stories and the wonderful accents I've listened to them over and over and over again! The Harry Potter series is also VERY well done on audio.

And some books are actually a LOT better on audio. I can't tell you how many times I TRIED to read The Lord of the Rings-- I love fantasy, but I just could NOT slog through Tolkien. HOWEVER the AUDIOBOOKS read by Rob Inglis are AWESOME!

Water for Elephants and The Help are excellent. I've never listened to these books, but I am sure they are available on audio.

Eat Pray Love is read by the author and very entertaining. The Help is also good on audio.
I've heard that Prodigal Summer is also good but haven't heard it yet.

Don't know if anyone else suggested this (Didn't have time to read), goodreads.com is an excellent site. You can search by author, title, or by genre. There are lists, reviews too. You can make your own lists so you remember all the ones you want to read, and rate books you have read for others. It' free, too! :)

My husband commutes an hour to work -- he listens to history, philosophy, and religion classes on tape.
We listen to a lot of audiobooks as my son's college is 2.5 hours from home.
Here's my list:
The Help.
All the Harry Potter books are on tape and they are terrific!
Any of the Jeeves series are great.
All the Agatha Christie stories are terrific.
Just pick a bunch of them up at the library and if you don't like it after the first CD, switch to something else. :-)

I don't know if these are on audiobooks but I LUV the Red River of the North series by Lauraine Snelling. There's also Love Comes Softly series by Jeanette Oke too but not sure if they're on audio. I don't listen to too much audio books, myself so I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful!. Good luck!

I’m also a big audio-booker. Here are some that I have LOVED recently and some others that I have really really liked a lot.

LOVED:
A Thousand Splendid Suns (prob my fav of all time)
Bel Canto
The Invisible Bridge
The Kitchen House
Cutting for Stone
The Millennium series (The Girl: with the Dragon Tatoo, Who Played with Fire & Who kicked the hornet's nest)

Really really liked:
The Help
Snow Flower and the Secret Fan
Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
Life of Pi
Prince of Tides
Suite Franchise
Sarah's Key
Room

And here is one that might just change your mind about SciFi. I, like you, was adamant that I wasn’t into fantasy until I read this two months ago:
The Time Travelers Wife

I'm into oldies, so I second the motion on the Agatha Christie books and the Jeeves and Wooster books. I also am a big fan of Dorothy Sayers' Lord Peter Wimsey mysteries. And Tolkien's Lord of the RIngs series (along with "The Hobbit") - the books are much better than their movie versions!
