My husband and I will celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary in a little less than 2 weeks and I am at a loss on what to get him. We don't usually do the gift thing, but this is a biggie and he has already given me my gift. (he had my engagement ring remounted and added emeralds on each side) He doesn't wear any jewelry other than his wedding ring and doesn't wear a watch. As with most people funds in our house are limited so I was hoping y'al might have some inexpensive but highly creative suggestions for me. I greatly appreciate any responses.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you so much to all the ladies that responded. All the ideas were fabulous. I ended up taking photos from the last ten years, starting with wedding and honeymoon pictures and moving through ultrasound pictures and pictures of the kids and our family doing various activities and from trips we had taken and I set the whole slide show to music. The first screen opened with "I Do..." and our wedding date and the last screen said "I Still Do..." with our 10 year anniversary date. I used Jim Brickman's "Love of my Life", Kenny Rogers "Through the Years" and finally "the Gift" which was our wedding song. I got the software and label maker stuff and put together my own creation for the CD cover both front and back and put a wedding picture on the CD itself (this was very inexpensive at Target and I hightly recommend it - Memorex)My 8 year old daughter even cried when she watched it. It definitely helped to showcase all the good stuff that has happened in the last decade. We got my folks to ake the kids for an overnight andwent out for a nice dinner alone. Then snuggled on the couch and watch the baseball game and the best part was sleeping in the next morning. Thanks again for all the suggestions it really helped to get my creative juices flowing. good luck to those with upcoming anniversaries.

There's always "10" of something... or, here's something I did a long time ago that was well received... go to a trophy shop and get one of those traditional cup trophies. (you can even fill it with stuff, too, if you want)and have it engraved with his name and occasion "To the one I love" or "For first place in my heart, 10 years running"... something like that.

If you can afford a babysitter for the weekend, take him on an overnight with a nice dinner included.

Certainly buy him something, but one of the best gifts I got/made for my husband was a list of sentences. I started every sentence with "I love you because..." and I listed all the big and little things he does and for who he is. I teared up while writing it and he teared up while reading it. I put little things like ...because you fill up my car with gas when you notice it's getting low AND ...because you wink at me across the room at a party. I put in big things like ...because you are an amazing Dad and husband and I can only hope our daughters marry someone just like you! It made me realize how important all the big and little things are to our relationship. It made him realize I know and appreciate all those things and cherish our relationship! Happy Anniversary!

Scrapbooking is fairly easy. Why don't you make a scrapbook of the past 10 years. I think he would love it. I did a scrapbook for my father for his 50th birthday and he really enjoyed it. It took me about a week after I got the pictures together. Good Luck and Congrats on 10 years.

maybe write something to mimick the tonights show "Top Ten List" like top 10 reasons we are still together and going strong, why i married you, why i love you, why we will be together forever, why i don't mind if you leave the seat up, or why God gave me you. You could have it posted in the newspaper on your anniversary w/a picture of your wedding day (even better a billboard:). Or maybe you could list really cool/sweet/significant things that ya'll have shared together, one for each of the 10 years.

Good luck, I will be reading the other posts for ideas. We will celebrate 10 years in August 2009.

I like a combination of a date night and 10 of something...I'm just not sure what. The traditional gift is Tin/Aluminum and the modern gift is diamond...a quick search led me to a cute idea. "Personalized 'Wonderful Things About You' Tin" You pick out the color and design of the tin and then either personalize of select messages to go inside the tin (you could make it a memory jar...reminders of stories or good times you've had.

My tenth is next year, so please let me know what you end up doing.

Happy 10!! My husband and I celebrated 12 this year! My how time flys . . . Anyway, just recently my husband and I planned a date night and we still talk about that night as being one of the best. What we did was get someone to watch all our kids for the night. If you have more than 1 and no family in town, ask some of their friends. If you get them to watch them for the night then you don't have to worry about being on a time restraint and let the evening flow. Reminds you of how it was before kids. I bought steaks and shrimp and we grilled them out with a salad and then I rented a good movie (not too girly because it would lose his interest, but something with action) and we spent the night just the two of us. We actually moved our couch in to the middle of the living room so that we can feel like we were at the movies! It ended with a nice romantic bath with candles and bubbles and then candles in our room if you know what I mean!

My husband feels that any night that ends with sex is a good night so if your husband feels the same way, it can't be too hard!

Have fun planning because sometimes that is the most fun!

Try a day and night out. Get a couple's massage, then onto dinner, a movie, then a hotel room. One night away will be a nice time but not too pricey or too long away from the kids. Get lingerie! :o) We are doing this for my husband's 40th which falls at the same time as our anniversary. It won't be too much money.

Or, just the hotel room and dinner....and the lingerie. :o)

Hi J. C,
Congradulation to you both.
Isn't life so wonderful? God just knew who to bring in our life. I to have a wonderful husband of 33 years. And we have many happy moments too. And we have had many struggles. But together we worked them out and still do. Our funds are not to much either.
Take time out and enjoy each other as if no one is around. Talk to each other and hold each other as before. And see in each others eyes the crown that you both wear. The crown of deep spiritual love for one another.
Talk about what both of you have done to lift the other up in life. The world's things are nothing when it come to two soul join as one in spirit and understanding for each other.
May you both have many more years together as one.

I hope I gave you some Ides.

May you have a good day
Today

THe traditional gift for 10th anniversary is tin or aluminum. The modern gift is diamond jewelry, (that's not very helpful for a husband now is it). I usually turn to the anniversary gift list when I need inspiration, but 10th isn't very inspiring, huh? I'm facing my 10th next year so I guess I better start thinking of something.:) Good Luck!

I too just celebrated my 10 year anniversary in September and felt we needed to do something special to mark the milestone. My husband also gave me an anniversary band that mirrors my wedding band; I will cherish it every day!

Since I'm a SAHM who brings in minimal money with my side business, I opted for an equally sentimental but much less expensive gift in return. I transferred our wedding video from VHS to DVD and divided it into chapters so that we could skip to different parts more easily. Not only will this prolong the life of the video but it has made it much more fun to watch.

I also took our favorite photographs since we switched to digital 5 years ago and put them to music by theme: seasonal events, travel destinations, and treasured memories. With some basic computer software, you may be able to do this yourself or if you'd like, I can help you for a reasonable price. I'm a video producer based in Knoxville, and you can learn more about my background and services at bluefrogcreations.net. I don't mean for this to be a sales pitch, but I think I could create something really special for you.

Good luck!

One year for our anniversary I planned a surprise long weekend trip. I arranged for time off on Friday for my husband from his employer. I planned a weekend trip with the travel agent who had helped us plan our honeymoon. I got my mom and dad to watch the kids for the weekend. I packed his suitcase for him. I kidnapped my husband from work. I took him to the airport and would not tell him where we were going. We flew to Atlanta and then to Tampa. We got a rental car in Tampa and drove to St. Petersburg. As we drove over the St. Pete bridge you could see this huge pink building in the distance all lit up. My husband said, "What do you think that pink building is?" I said, "I think it is our hotel." We stayed on one of the top floors of a restored pink palace-the Don Ce Sar Hotel. http://www.doncesar.com/ It was beautiful and we had a great weekend just the two of us.

I'm sure you got some good answers. There was also a query about the 3rd anniversary on my MamaSource mailing today. Might wanna read those answers, too! http://www.mamasource.com/request/6777202218119462913

And/Or just think of some things he's said in the past that he'd like to have or do (or ask his family members and his friends if they've heard him 'wish' for something).

Good luck and God bless!

What about a photo album with pics from the beginning of your relationship until present time. I would also arrange to have the kids spend the night a grandparents or friends then make a special dinner- steak and potatoes or whatever his favorite thing is. Don't forget dessert. Set the table with candles and flowers, make it romantic. If there is something that your husband really enjoys like football, maybe invite his friends over for a tailgate party and serve them. If he enjoys fishing send him away for a day of fishing or both of you go fishing together.

This July will be our 30 year anniversary. One thing my husband did for me early in our marriage is give me about 20-25 3X5 cards with things that he would do for me. Things that I really enjoyed or that were specially for me. I could use them any time I wanted. When they were presented he happily did them, no complaints. Things like long back rubs with no expected return, day with my girlfriends, window shopping trips that he just enjoyed the time with me and was not hurrying me along; etc. You can make them specific to your husband. Back rubs, foot massages, night out with the boys, spending time on his hobby with him, read to him, his favorite dinner, cookies or pies, walk in the park, or in the mountains with him. You can get creative and decorate the cards with stickers, punches, stamps; and even get an inexpensive paper or wooden box from a craft store and decorate it to. It will be filled with your love for him and will be treasured! This will also get you both in the mind set of doing special things for each other. We will also put notes in lunch boxes, pockets of shirts or pants, wallets, on the steering wheel or on the shower mirror. SHMILY is a good tool = See How Much I Love You on a post it next to something you have done for each other. God Bless, Bj

Have fun. Remember, you are celebrating your life together. Go on your first date again. Go to your fav happy hour spot from before you married or had kids. Or take the little one to the park and have a picnic celebrating all you've accomplished in 10 years. Tell him all the things that you've told us about how wonderful he is.

Hi J.,
This is the same response I just gave to someone else!
You could make him a photo book. Check out shutterfly.com and snapfish.com - they have photo books that are really easy to create. I made one for my husband for father's day and he loves it. He carries it in his briefcase to work everyday!!

Hey there Congrats on your ten years. What I did on my ten year anniversary with limited funds was find a baby sitter and go on a date like we were kids again. We went miniture golfing and then went to get a ice cream and to end the night we went and parked the car and watch the sunset. It was inexpensive and made us feel like kids again. We made it a rule not to talk about work or kids or money. we talked about stuff like when we first got together hope dreams all that stuff you don't always have time to talk about.
