Seeking Feedback on Home-based Business Idea

I am currently working in a 40+ hr/wk, high-stress position outside the home. Although I have been with the company for almost 10 yrs, I'm not sure that it is worth it anymore....I don't get to spend the kind of time that I would like with my family AND half of what I bring in goes to our home-care provider.

I have recently begun thinking about potential home-based businesses. I've seen lots of suggestions, on this website and others. But I keep coming back to something, that as a working mother I have often wished for: a helping hand. Someone to do all the little things that there always seems to be no time for: children's pick-up/drop-off services for school/pre-school/extracurricular activities, routine errands (i.e. bank, post office, dry cleaners, drug store), grocery shopping, etc...

I'm just not sure how much (if any) interest there would be in this kind of service. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

Hi A.,
First let me say, how great it is that you are venturing out of Corporate America to have more time with family. I do like your business idea, it is something everyone needs. However, my only concern is, how many people would really be able to justify paying for these services. I know there have been errand companies around for a while. Have you researched their success?
From my experience, a business with a consumable product is your best bet. Something anyone with hair and skin uses on a daily basis. I'm a Regional VP with Arbonne, and our products represent superior products for the entire family.
I wish you all the success with your new venture, whatever it may be!!
If you ever have any questions at all about transitioning to being your own boss from corporate america, let me know! I have been in your shoes!!

I think it's a great idea. Run with it girl. It will probably be hard at first, but I think you have a good idea. I would probably use someone like that if they were resonably priced. You should probably include pet sitting, dog walking, and house sitting. Your kiddos could probably lend a helping hand with dog walking and what not, and learn the value of a dollar. It's what you make of it. Keep us posted on your success, good luck!

Hi A.,
For the last 2 years I have been preparing meals for families that are packaged and picked up weekly. While this has made me some extra cash the buisness just never took off. I still have 2 families that I cook for but I can see that this is not going to be "the buisnes" opportunity I was hoping for.
I agree with Jennifer C. that a consumable product is your best buisness bet. I have recently become a independent distributor for Sibu Balance...an all natural juice drink that is a vitamin replacement. This product is superior in its field and is the only whole food know to contain Omega 3, 6, 7 & 9. The Seabuckthorn Company is helping me to obtain financial freedom and superior health!

Good Luck with your decision! Let me know how it goes and if I can help you in any other way!

Can you cook? All that stuff sounds good, but I would be more likely to hire someone for odd jobs if they would not only grocery shop, but come home and cook a meal! Good luck!

Hey A.! I can relate to your current work situation. I too was there a couple of years ago- high stress, negative work environment, etc. I decided to leave corporate america and open my own home based business. Prior to making that decision, I did lots of research and made sure that I was fully prepared and had savings set aside. Also, check out the Ft. Worth Womens Business Center for counseling, classes, advice etc. (contact Toni Booth, ###-###-#### or ____@____.com). Sounds like you have some great ideas and definitely the motivation. If you can handle five boys, you can handle a business!!

I wish you the best and let me know if you would ever like to chat in person ###-###-####).

Best Wishes,
