Seeking Excellent Pediatric Opthamologist

We have just returned from my son's kindergarten physical. Our pediatrician mentioned that he has a black spec on his cornea (I think I remember somebody mentioning it when he was very young with the thought that it was not a problem) and he would like an opthamologist to confirm that it is nothing (I am trying not to overreact...) I don't mind traveling for the best- I am looking for any referrals. Additionally, has anyone had a similar experience with the black spec?

What can I do next?

Hi J.,
I don't know where you live, but I take my children to Premier Eye Care, and they see Dr. Kolton-she is fantastic with the kids. There is an office in Barrington and Buffalo Grove. I also know of Dr. Mittleman, he is out of Lutheran General in Park Ridge. I am a nurse who have worked with both Dr.'s and would recommened either one of the them. Good luck to you! N.

I have been very impressed with the opthalmologists over at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago. The 4th floor is dedicated to Pediatric Opthalmologists. Each of their doctors has a couple of specialties WITHIN opthalmology. Dr. Rahmani was very gentle & kind. You can call ###-###-####.

I second Premier Eye care. Dr Kolton is great. My son has had amblyopia and strasbismus from birth and has seen a few pediatric ophthalmologists in his past. He enjoys Dr Kolton and she get us in and out of there. We go to the Barrington office

Hi J.,

We had to bring our son to the Opthamologist when he was about 8 months old due to a pupil issue - his pupils do not dilate evenly. We went to Dr. Jeffrey Kershaw at Mercy Care in Woodstock and loved him. He was very knowledgable and made us feel very comfortable. Our son's eye issue could have been indicative of a very serious condition and Dr. Kershaw was on top of it. Thankfully it was nothing!

We took my daughter to the Wheaton Eye Clinic. Her doctor was Dr. Kipp. He was awesome. She has a deformity in her cornea. It turned out to be nothing that they can change but at least it was also something that wouldn't get worse either.
