My 12 year olds (twins) take guitar lessons at For Those about to Rock music school in Southlake. They both started on electric guitars. Their first instuments were ephifone starter packs. It includes the guitar and an amp. They love taking lessons there. They get to choose which songs to learn.

There is a great music school in old downtown Arlington. My daughter just started guitar lessons there last month. It is Plasterini's Main Street School of Music. Their number is ###-###-####. They have students from UTA and other musicians that teach guitar/electric/bass, piano, sax, drums. The address is 212 W. Main Street, Arlington, 76010. Good luck!

Hi M.,

I asked a similar question on Mamasource recently and got some great advice. My 9 yr old son wanted to take guitar lessons after playing Guitar Hero. We struggled trying to figure out if he should start with electric or acoustic. His guitar teacher recommended he come to his first lesson before purchasing a guitar so he could help us decide which guitar would be best. We all agreed that electric was the way to go and my son has been very happy. The way it was described to us was what will he want to play as soon as he wakes in the morning and that's the guitar to go with. I just assmed that new guitar players start with acousitc but that is not the case, its really their choice. Hope this helps.

I would suggest going into Guitar Center. My Husband is a assistand manager there, and i know that there are tons of people that they all know that do lessons. IMOF my mother in law and my brother in law (who is 14) where both taking lessons form a guy, that my husband new from Guitar center. Pluss they can hook you up with the best guitar for the best price. One thing my husband always gripes about is that people come in looking to get a guitar for their kid, and then end up getting the cheapest guitar, and then the kid takes lessons for like 3 weeks and quits, and the reason is is that they got a horrible guitar to begin with, so it make the lessons harder, and it won't stay in tune so the kids get frustrated and give up. I would go in and get a basic guitar, go in and talk to my husband, pm me if you want his name :)

best of luck, hey at least its not the drums lol!

Hi there. I know a guy who several of us have used. His name is C. and he gives the lesson in your home (so no hassle) & you can be there for safety etc taking care of dinner, cleaning, or relaxing :)

His # is ###-###-#### & his email is ____@____.com.. He's fabulous with kids (especially beginners) is extremely patient & makes it really fun for the kids!!! He charges only $30/lesson (1 hour lesson) if you pay monthly or $40 if you want to pay by the week...

Hope this helps!!!
