Hi! I have an 18mo old son who spends most of his days with his dad while I'm working. We read a lot about mom's groups and opportunities, but does anyone know of things for dad and baby?

I know he can meet up with alot of other Dads at Portland Parks and Rec open gym times for toddlers. That's what my partner did on days he had the kids. He had fun connecting with other dads. :)

I don't know of any dad specific groups, but there are lots of activities in the SE area. I take my kids out frequently and I always see dads out too. Some ideas, library story-times and craft times, Sunburst Gymnasium in Clackamas has open gym on Tuesday mornings from 11-12, Oaks Park does preschool skating from 10-11:30 every Tuesday & Wednesday, OMSI Science Playground, the zoo, Portland Children's Museum, and the Indoor Playground at the OIT Gym in Clackamas on Wed & Friday, 9:30-11 (I've heard this is pretty good for meeting people). Good Luck, what a blessing for your son to spend so much time with his daddy!

The children's museum is a great place to spend time with areas that would be age appropriate for a toddler.

My husband was a stay at home dad with our son's until they started school. They seemed to always find activities like swimming, the library and parks to keep them busy! Be thankful for the time he gets to spend with dad! My husband passed away this last year and I know we all cherish the fact he was able to spend so much time being their dad!

My daughter is 5 now and over the years I noticed an increase in stay-at-home dad's. I met these dads at community center playgroups, the pool and church playgroups(need not be religious). I even made a fantastic dad friend through the park playground. We just meet at the park and our kids play well together. Good luck to Daddy.

Hi C.,

I came across this site when I was searching for options for my husband, who stays home with our little guy (17 mos) on Tuesdays and would also like to connect with other dads--especially since we're new to the area. I don't have any experience with the group (not sure if our situation is SAHD enough for this particular group), and the Web site suggests that it is just starting up, but it could be worth checking out:

Hey C.,

Try http://www.outdoordads.org

They do hikes once a month, which might be a bit tough for an 18 month old, but there's a resource page with links to other websites/groups for dads.
