I'm hosting a baby shower for my sister sometime in late August or early September. This will be after she's had the baby. Looking for a baby-friendly but hip, cool, fun place in downtown Portland area... ideas? Could be a restaurant, or a place that hosts events...open to all ideas! Thanks!

What can I do next?

I second Milagros Boutique's community room

It's totally byo food+drink, which is great if you have dietary concerns or just like more control/less cost than a restaurant ... it's a community-meeting type room with toys and painted in vibrant but not dayglo colors. There's a couple of couches, some chairs, a couple of tables ... last time I rented it it was $60/3 hours ... about 16 ft x 40 ft, I'd guess ... bathroom is through a stockroomy type closet, is the only thing you really have to watch the kids about. The nicer bathroom is accessed through the adjacent Boutique itself (french doors connect).

Full disclosure, I know the owners ... but I met them AFTER I fell in love with the space ;).

Hi P.,

Our friends put on a baby shower for us at the Lucky Lab on Hawthorne. They have a separate room and will provide drinks & appetizers for your party. Then the guests can order something else at the bar if they want. It was a really fun time that was good for adults & kids alike.

I know Kennedy school has rooms you can use, I don't know that there will be toys and such. Milagros (on NE Killingsworth) has a side meeting room. The only other place that came to mind was Sip & Kranz. They have a giant play room...but you'll be sharing it with others who are at the cafe at that time.

Hi there,
MeToo cafe in Beaverton is a great place that serves pretty healthy food and has a great supervised play area. It is really neat because it has not just tables but long couches and area for showers or parties. It isn't private (there are other patrons in the place) but seems to work well the times I have been in and seen events. My kids love this place, here is a link http://www.metoobeaverton.com/index.php?c=home&sectio...

good luck.
