A good friend of mine just started taking clomid after years of failure to concieve on her own. She has PCOS and has had so much diappointment throughout the last few years. She really needs some encouragement and from what I've heard, clomid can be a miracle drug for women with PCOS. If you have a success story or advice, please tell me and I'll pass this page on to her.

I have a dear friend who took it years ago, her boy/girl twins are now 14 & fabulous! They were joined by a brother, who came along the natural way, 4 yrs. later. I'm sure they have made great improvement over 15 yrs., so tell her to keep her chin up. I bet by this time next year she'll have a positive test!!
Good Luck!!

Ooh Ohh pick me!
So, I have no idea what PCOS is, but here is my story.
At age 14, my period was so completely out of control that I had to get a blood transfusion was put on birth control. I never successfully came off of it becuase of the heaving bleeding. SO, when my husband and I decided to get pregnant, we thought it would take some time, since at that point I had been on the pill for say more than 10 years. So I went off the pill in January, I think, and we were intentionally NOT trying to get pregnant but instead let my body figure out what the heck it is supposed to do on my own. Of course, my cycle made absolutely no sense and most of the time I did not have a period at all. We went to a gyno to figure out what was going on, I think this was in June or July maybe? She said that really she thought I had no acutally "problem" but since I really wanted to conceive gave us some options. First, we started really tracking signs and symptoms of the different phases of the cycle and just tried to conceive on our own. Since I really wasnt having a period, it was difficult to figure out when to "try" and when you can consider a missed period. Many failed ovulation tests and pregnancy test later, we went back to the dr. I think we may have tried glucophage by itself somewhere in there, but I cannot remeber. So, then in October the dr suggested chlomid, accompanied with glucophage. This was really a step that my husband was leary about since we both have a history of twins and this was a little more "fertlity drug" than he really wanted to consider. But, he backed me up and knew how much I wanted a baby so I went for it. The glucophage made me incredibly nauseated but then my ovulation tests came back possitive! My periods were still very odd, but I ovulated, maybe for the first time ever! So we did this for about 3 months. New years eve I was ovulating, so says the test, so we left the party early to conceive. On my appt a week later, i told her I knew I was pregnant and that she should do a blood test, but she thought it was too early even for a blood test. A few days later my husband told me to take a pregnancy test. Frustrated at all the negative tests I had taken in the past several months, I was reluctant and acutally was pretty mad at him, but took it and it was possitvie! So I call the dr and the nurse asks the date of my last period and I tell her, since I dont really have periods anyway and she tells me I am like 7 weeks pregnant and sure enough, I conceived Thanksgiving weekend, after being on chlomid for one cycle! The glucophage side effects were so similar to morning sickness that I didnt even put it together and even the dr had no idea! So yes, it can work, and quickly. Again, the dr said I would probably have gotten pregnant on my own, had I been patient, but that was so frustrating, all I needed was a little push. It has a single pregnancy, no twins and he is 3-1/2 now. He is beautiful and amazing and I love sharing my story. I hope this helps your friend. If chlomid resutls in multiple births, it is generally twins, no octoplets or anything and for some reason the glucophage helps it work all the better! I am so glad we took that route. I could go on and on, but I think that it is really it. Thanks for listening.

A former colleague of mine was pregnant within only a couple of cycles on Clomid. She delivered a healthy baby girl.

My best friend conceived her daughter on their second cycle of clomid, then wasn't able to conceive through 6 cycles 4 years later. Good news is after six cycles, two months later they conceived naturally. Then the bonus! When her son was 5 months old and still nursing, she conceived again. They are surviving with two babies and a six year old now, and are so, so happy (and looking into birth control...something she never thought she would need!)

I had two miscarriages and was put on Clomid and had my son who is now 6. I had to be on 3 rounds before I conceived. I also have a friend that was on Clomid and now has triplet girls. From what I understand the success rate is pretty successful. Good luck to your friend!

Clomid was a miracle for me! I had signed all the paperwork and we began I IVF process in the middle of my last clomid cycle. On that day I also got my Oviderel trigger shot and my husband and I decided to splurge, stay in a nice hotel, drink a little to much wine, and do it like teenages. A week and a half later I had a positive pregnancy test! Our son is due in June. Clomid is really draining on your body physically and emotionally - I was a train wreck and having constant hot flashes and mood swings - but it did the trick and our son will be here soon! He fighting! :)
