Hi, Moms. I am getting ready to have my 2nd baby and would like to know the best bottle to purchase since many were considered unsafe due to the chemicals in the plastic. I will be nursing for the most part but will need to occasionally use the bottle so that I can go out:)

What can I do next?

I like the Sassy Mam bottles. They come apart into lots of pieces so you can clean them pretty well and they are a safe plastic. They are hard to find in stores but you can order them from amazon.

We use the Playtex Nursers with the disposable liners. Our baby loves them!

Hi A....

First, Congratulations on your pregnancy.

The ONLY bottles that my daughter would take while I was breastfeeding were the Playtex Drop-Ins - and my lactation consultant even recommended them to me. They are really similar to the breast, and I could tell that when she would feed on them that she was making the same jaw action as she did when she fed on the breast---which was important to me so that she didn't get nipple confusion. I also personally liked them because I could remove all of the air and help eliminate any gassiness.

Also, I DEFINITELY recommend that you get the Drop-Ins vs. the bags that you have to fold over the edges. Target's brand worked GREAT in the bottles and were cheaper than Playtex's brand, but worked the same. The 'bags' just never seemed to seal correctly and during those middle of the night feedings (while I was pumping to get my milk supply up and having to feed her by bottle) it made it so much easier to just pop the liner in rather than fight to get one folded over the edge. The bottles come in starter sets and that is how I would recommend them, as the starter set comes with an assortment of nipples in order for you to figure out which type your little one likes the best, and we did have to try a few of them before we figured out the one that she preferred. ((A trick I learned to help get the majority of the air out of the bags was to keep a few empty ready-to-feed formula bottles (the little ones that they will give you in the hospital (at least they did at mine---you might have to ask---they come in a set of 6, I believe, and I just dumped the formula out and kept about 3 of the bottles and then I would turn them upside down and use them to help push the air out of the bags. They fit perfectly within the bottle. Also...to help get the air out quicker, you won't want to screw the nipple/cap on completely---it's easier to screw it on about half way---squeeze the majority of the air out---and before it gets to the top, THEN tighten it and remove the rest of the air. Otherwise, I would find myself standing there for forever trying to push the air out slowly. It goes MUCH quicker when the nipple isn't sealed on tightly. These bottles are also nice because you only have the nipple and the ring to clean...you throw the bag out!

I also HIGHLY recommend purchasing the "Medela Quick Clean Micro-Steam Bags"...they were a lifesaver during those first few months of little sleep! They made sanitizing my bottle pieces and breast pump pieces incredibly quick and easy! I got mine at Target. You can google them and read up on what they are.

Best of wishes to you and your little miracle!

Seconding Michelle on Playtex with Dropins. Also if you can get the latex Natural latch nipples they are more similar to Mom..softer and collapse more like a breast.

Born free is good. Also Avent now makes BPA free bottles as well.

Hi A.-
With my second I really liked the Avent Tempo line. They need liners, but for the occasional bottle they are reasonably priced. I also liked the slightly more natural nipple which helped with the transition from breast to bottle. The liners seemed to help reduce air flow which helped with gas. Hope this helps! Good luck and congrats!
