Hi Moms, my little girl just turned 2 yrs old on 8.5.09. I have read tons of reviews about tricycles and the frustration of little feet not reaching the pedals just yet. I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good riding toy?

Radio Flyer has an adjustable trike @ toys r us and target. It starts out really small! The balance bike sounds really cool as well. I'm pretty sure you can get it at either Sensational Beginnings or Constructive Toys in the US. I found it online but didn't know anything about it. My son is too old now, but he would have loved it!!

Take her to the store and see which ones allow her feet to touch the floor. Get something inexpensive as she will grow fast. She can scoot while she is learning how to steer. Then once she has the steering down, then she can graduate to something with pedals. There are plenty of plastic trikes out there that she can scoot or pedal when she is a little taller. They are not too expensive.

My son loves his plasma car:

It is kinda pricey but after the frustration of cars that don't steer well and don't allow his feet to touch the ground, this is a winner. He started using it at about 18 months and still rides it now (just over 2 years old). It has no pedals, he just propels it with his feet. Actually, the car is designed to be ridden with feet up and propelled by moving the steering wheel back and forth. Definitely a toy that will grow with him.

Hello,

I have found a great riding toy for my daughter. my husband is military and we are currently living in Germany. When we arrived here and I found a really cute little bike here. It's a "two wheeler" but no pedals. My daughter also two LOVES LOVES LOVES it! It has taught her great balance. She had learned how to get herself a good start and then coast...thus the balancing. It's amazing to watch her scoot around. I would look on line for Germany bikes for kids or maybe at the toysrus.de The site will be in German but maybe you could find something out about the bikes. Sorry I could't be more help but I hope you are able to find something.

my dd who is 16 months, also loves her cozy coup car from little tikes, she gets in and out of it, fills it with gas, takes dollys for a ride, she cant uite scoot it along yet, but she will be able to use it for a long time, i can push her around in it.
we also have a twistcar, which is a little ride on which you propel with your arms, anyone up to 200 pounds can ride it, we all use it its great fun, and very low to the ground so my 16 month old can push it with her feet.

i got both of these at garage sales, cozy coup for $3 and the twist car for 10, both almost brand new!

My son has outgrown it now, but he used to love the Rock, Roll, and Ride. I think it may have been from Fisher-Price. He rocked on it at 1, I pushed him on it at 2, and he rode it himself at 3.

I agree that Kettler trikes are great. I own two and my 5 year old still rides it at times. Kettler also makes a foot board that your daughter can place her feet on while you push until she is ready to pedal. They have cool features like "auto free wheel" so that when you are pushing the pedals don't go twirling around and hit her feet AND a very good, wide turning radius so it doesn't tip easily. Just make sure the Kettler you decide upon has the features that you want - they do not all have the great features.

Also - all kids love the cozy coupe cars, which they do not pedal but use their feet to move.

Happy shopping!

PlaySchool makes a really cute Ride 2 Roll Scooter. We used to carry it with Discovery Toys and my 4 year old still loves it.

Peace,

There is a trike by Kettler? Or Ketter..it has a push pole to help you scoot her in the beginning. It can grow with her for a few years. I also strongly suggest you try to find one used.. Those trikes last forever and she will grow out of it so fast and they are very sturdy. I also suggest a good wagon.

Have you heard of a "skuut"? It's a balance bike, aka a two-wheeler without pedals. I think someone below was referring to something like it. It seems like it would be easy enough for a two year old to maneuver and help learn balancing skills. I haven't tried it out with my girls but it is definitely on my list.

My twins received their Dora and Diego "trykes". They received them for their 1st birthday. They are low enough to to ground to push around with their feet and have peddal that go forward and in reverse for when they can reach them and learn to pedal...My kids are much smaller than average with my famale twin about two inches shorter than my male twin. At nearly 5 they are just getting big enough to reah the pedals to learn the pedaling skill. These trykes have held up extremely well and are like a hybrid cross between the typical tricycle and a big wheel from the late 70s early 80s...the nice part is that they were only 20 bucks a piece for a toy that has entertained my children outside for nearly 4 years.
