Seeking Best Appliances at Best Prices

Hi Everyone,

I am shopping around for a lot of appliances in stainless steel. I thought I'd ask you on Mamasource for your advice on where to go to buy the appliances. I've heard if you agree to buy all of your appliances at the same store, then they will give you a better deal. Is that true? I think I heard that about Abt. I really like that store, but I'm wondering what's the best store for appliances or do you know of an online store that is reputable.

Also....I'd appreciate any advice on brands/styles to buy, as well as ones to avoid. I am in the market for a dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator, built in oven, and built in stove. I would also like advice on what features on appliances are worth getting.

Thank you in advance for your help with my shopping task!

Joy

We've been really happy at ABT over the years, from appliances to tv and steroes. The take care of you, are willing to negotiate, and have a solid reputation and a bricks and mortar store to go back to if there are problems. Shop around over the Internet, and it if is a legitimate business, they'll make a deal based on what you bring in (print out the comparative shopping).

Sears Essentials in Palatine is closing their store and offering great discounts. They have a large appliance department. Sears brand appliances are made by LG which is the top leading electronics manufacturer in Europe. I w/check them out.

I like Grants Appliances. We did go to ABT - and also shopped online. Grants gave the best deal compared to what we found online and at ABT.

I have to say- we have always gotten a good deal from Sears. We've bought several appliances from them and they recently replaced our furnace. The service has been excellent, both the customer service center on the phone and the installation and follow-up.

If you are really trying to save big on cost, I would definitely suggest checking out a Sears Outlet store- they sell slightly used or floor models of major appliances.

I wouldn't look there for everything, but we replaced our old dryer with one that was brand new, super efficient, etc. We got a dryer that cost almost $600 for just under $300- because there was a scratch on the front of the door!

I wouldn't do that for everything, but for something that is just sitting in the basement, I didn't really care about the scratch and I got the dryer I really wanted for less than half the regular cost.

Just shop around and compare prices and see who has the brand or style that you really want. Good Luck!

After you do your research and find what you like, check out the Sears Appliance Outlet stores. There are several in the area but I can only think of the one in Elgin and the one off of George and North Ave in Franklin/Melrose PK area. There are more though. They have many brands, they run sales, the stuff still carries the warranty. Some of the stuff isn't even damaged, just discontinued but for a small scratch or dent where no one will even see it, they give pretty good deals. If by chance you find that a part is missing (hose, cord, oven grate) just call the manufacturer and tell them you bought the item and it is missing the part. They typically send out the replaceemnt for free.

We had to buy all new appliances 3 years ago when we remodeled our house. I researched for weeks and compared prices. I found the best deal at Grants. In the end when I compared it to Abt and Sears, it was like we got our convection oven for free.
One thing to watch out for is if there is a specific brand/model don't let them talk you into something else. Stick with what you researched. I don't know if sometimes they try to "get rid" of something and try to push it on customers.
Good Luck and happy research!

When we remodeled our kitchen a few years back, we got all our appliances at ABT. They were willing to negotiate and they have so many things to look at!

In addition to that, your kids would LOVE the store. It's a fun place to shop because they have so many fun things to look at, even for kids. I would at least go there to see the variety of things they have.
