My daughter really wants to start taking beginning classes. I have only been able to find studios that want her to audition, but she doesn't have experience yet. She needs to start from the beginning. We live in Draper, Utah. Any ideas?

What can I do next?

I know my 13 yr old niece was taking some modeling classes. I think the lady was in Sandy. I can find out more info for you if you'd like.

I know of a couple in Saratoga Springs. They do it from their home. Both have good credentials in singing and dancing. I know she was also in a pageant at one time. I could get you their info if you'd like it. I know they started classes a couple of weeks ago, but maybe you could get in or start on their next session.

Up With Kids is great. My little sister did it for years and loved it. It's not so much for modeling, but it's great acting experience. I'm not sure on the age limit, though...

My daughter modeled from age 9 to 20 (she said she got hungry so she quit LOL) At the "audition" it usually consists of an interview, they have her walk for them and take he picture. Then you sign a contract and she can begin classes. I know of no agencies near you. Their all about the same.

I have been an international model in both Italy and Spain. I started out here in Utah and I know all the ins and outs of modeling. If you are serious about modeling you first need to get with a reputable mother agency in Utah. The only one I consider reputable (and I have belonged to a few and talked to many) is Wilhelmina Urban. They are located in SLC.

There are quite a few expenses that come up though. Taking classes to teach her how to model (the biggest one), the cost of photos, a portfolio to put them in, and comp cards (for marketing)are the main ones. You can call them for more details on how it works. They can take your daughter from no experience, and make her in to a top model (as long as she has that type of potential, e.i. the right looks and height). I started in 8th grade and my first modeling job with them was for Seventeen Magazine.

I would only recommend going down this road if you really are serious about it, and if your daughter has a lot of potential. Otherwise you will waste a lot of time and money. If you are more wanting her to just have fun, or model as a extra curricular activity, or for self-esteem, then there are many agencies you can join that focus on that and aren't so expensive. If that is the route you want then I would just look up talent agencies in the phone book and see who is nice and inexpensive. :-)

I hope this helps.
Good luck!

You might check the Up With Kids website and see if that is the type of thing you are looking for. My kids are both in it and love it. She does dance, singing and acting throughout the school year and then they perform a musical at the end of the year. www.upwithkids.com
