I am 3 months pregnant, and this has been happening to me. I definitely plan on going to the doctor for this, as at the end of my pregnancy with my 2 year old son, I was mildy preeclamptic and put on bed rest.

In the meantime, I suggest just taking it easy until it subsides.

My best to you!
M.

This happened to me all the time when I was pregnant with my first and second child. My heart rate would go sky high. It hurt. For the first little bit the doctor told me not to worry, not to worry, but she did keep tabs on me, had little bit more appointments than other women. Eventually it did become a problem and I was hospitalized a few times. I was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia (I don't know if I spelled this right) and there were problems in the delivery room with my first. (everything came out all right)

I'm not writing this to scare the hell out of you.
For you it could just be a part of the pregnancy and nothing is wrong. But, wouldn't you rather be safe than sorry. I am just trying to encourage you to call your doctor and talk about it.

Yes, you will notice all kinds of strange heart rhythms when you are prego - it is due to the increased blood flow in the body. Unless you have some type of underlying heart disease then you will be just fine - mine used to get up to like 115 some times for no real reason. You might try sleeping on left your side already if you have been sleeping flat on your back, even though your baby is still a peanut maybe something is going on with blood flow when you sleep. Congrats on your baby!

Have your talked with your doctor about this? If not, you should, and soon. Your heart is under stress enough with the added stress of an infant within you. Heart palpitations could be a real problem for you and your child! Talk with your doctor! You may want to see a cardiologist as well. Hearts are nothing to ignore!

C.,

Try keeping yourself on your side when you sleep, it might be the position of your body when you awake?

Use pillows in front and behind you to keep you in place...

My heart was somewhat like that when I was first pregnant with my son, I think it was the anxiousness I was feeling with my first pregnancy.

Also get checked by your dr. Take care.

This happened to me at the same point in my pregnancy. My OBGYN said it was TOTALLY NORMAL and a result of hormonal changes during pregnancy. It only lasted a few weeks (if that) for me. Do talk to your doctor but I'm sure it's fine.

If you live closer to health store than to doctor’s office, try to get Ionic Fizz with magnesium. It will not say on the label: “recommended for rapid heart beat” but enough research has been done to link this condition to magnesium deficiency and this would be the best way to up your level. Even if you take conventional supplement of magnesium – “Ionic” works differently.

I would definitely talk to your doctor or midwife about it as soon as possible. It may simply be normal, but pregnancy can do some funny things to some of us, and I would want to be sure it was OK. I had something similar during my pregnancies, but it didn't happen until later on and it was mild enough that I never really worried about it. But a friend of mine has heart problems when she is pregnant and she has to be careful and be monitored. I don't want to worry you, but I would think that it is best to know right away so you can do what you need to in order to keep your body healthy while you are growing your precious baby. Congratulations!

My sister had something similar and it was her thyroid. Have it checked...an overactive thyroid can make your heart work too fast! Good luck...I'm NOT a doctor, but it's an idea. :)

Yes, I have always had heart palpitations. My three pregnancies only made it worse. Night sweats and missed beats..fast heartbeats until I cough or get up. It IS scary. However, I went to the heart doc and got a bunch of tests and it is a normal thing for many people. YOU should get checked to see if it is normal for you. I had them before pregnancy. Please get it checked out but feel safe in that you are probably one of the 98% that it is totally normal. It is just an electrical glitch that happens while resting. Can be caused by dehydration, lack of sleep, and anxiousness (whether you know it or not, you may be feeling stress.) Good luck and stay healthy!

Definitely should ask your doc, but it's probably because when you are lying down your heart is below or level with your feet, so it has to work harder to pump blood to the rest of your body. And, as other people have said, you are pumping more blood and other fluids when you are finished. You might try elevating your head just a bit when you're sleeping. Also try sleeping on your left side. It's supposed to put less pressure on a major artery that runs along the right side of your body.

It happened to me when I was in my 6th month. My experience was truly scary. My heart was beating at almost 220 beats/min. At first when it started I just thought it was kind of strange, and since once or twice in my life I'd felt my heart flutter that way, I thought nothing of it, but after 5 then 10 minutes I was really getting concerned. At 15 I started calling my husband and at 20 minutes of no change I headed out to the hospital in tears and scared sh****ess for my baby. It continued to beat that way for nearly 2 hours. They had to inject me with adenosine to get it to come back down. They were monitoring the baby's heartbeat as well as mine. They tried having me burp, blow up a balloon, blow into a syringe thing, etc before going to the injection, which was their last resort. Both our heartbeats dropped immediately to half, mine remained normal and the baby's was also back to normal within minutes. I received EKG and Echocardiogram and did follow-up with a cardiologist, but nothing ever happened again. They just chalked it up to "gestational fluctuations". My case was extreme and it doesn't sound like yours is as bad, but I'm sure the not knowing is just as scary. Please talk to your doctor and get checked. Good luck to you.

Do you have an obstetrician? Ask him, it probably is nothing but its a good idea to check it out. A.

I had this happen to me with my last pregnancy. Mine was really bad though. While I was just sitting it was 100, my normal, and when I walked it would go up to 150. It was terrible, and I felt short of breath and could literally hear my heart. I was treated in the hospital for a few days and put on a medication to help. Well, I took the medication only as needed and as I got close to giving birth my heart returned to its normal rate. The cardiologist and obstetrician said it is sometimes common for pregnant women to have this happen. I wouldn't worry about your pulse too much. It isn't that high, but if it goes higher or start developing symptoms, definately see your doctor also mention it to him/her on your next visit. Good luck and enjoy your pregnancy.

This is definatly something you want to bring up with your doctor right away. He/She will probably want to check your thyroid, but also keep in mind when you're pregnant you gain up to 50% more blood flowing through your body so it is harder for your heart and body to keep up.

Yes, that did happen to me a lot when I was pregnant! And I would feel dizzy also. I don't remember if it was just in the morning though... I used to just sit, take deep breaths and eventually it would pass. I'm not sure what causes it though, sorry... Maybe you can ask you doctor next time you go see him/her.
