Hi everyone!My son was born with mild hypospadia,and i am not sure what steps i should take in terms of repair.I am so scared for him to have the surgery.Thanks for reading my request.
Hi my son now is 7 and he was also born with a mild case of hypospadia at 6 months we had it corrected and have never had a problem. It's a very scarry thought of having a child so young in age going through a procedure like that. But it was fairly quick and the recovery time was much more mild then I thought it might be.Stay strong for your little man he's much tougher then you may think. Good Luck.
My son also had this (as did my cousin's son). My son had it corrected @ age 1 by Dr. Burbidge @ Stam Hosp. He's a Ped. Urologist. He needed a second surgery @ age 2 for a follow on procedure (this time we went to Gwch hosp-both experiences were fine). It was painful but now @ age 6 everything is normal and he doesn't remember a thing. You can contact me directly if u want more info.

Hi! My brother had this, my son and my nephew! With my son I waited till he was almost 1 year old because I couldn't bear to see an infant go in for surgery!!! However, my brother had it done when he was 3 years old and was old enough to remember unpleasant things from the surgery.
I think around 1 or 2 is perfect because they will be big enough physically to have a good reconstructive repair done, but they will also be young enough to NOT remember it...so they won't be self-conscious of it! :)
And as far as the pain...right after my son "came to" after surgery he was a little sore, but by the time we got home from the hospital and later that evening it was if nothing had ever happened to him! He never complained when I changed his diaper and he was running, climbing and bouncing all over without a single complaint!!! goodluck!
Get a consult with Dr. Lane Palmer, Pediatric Urology Associates, PC ###-###-####. He specializes in this condition, as well as circumcisms... He has a LONG wait for surgery dates so GO NOW!!!!!!!!! The sooner you do it, the better for your son. My son had a circumcism "re-do" by him at 9 mths and it went GREAT!!!!! He is perfect now.

I have twin boys- both of which had hypospadias.
I knew that they needed to get it repaired and was very nervous about the whole thing -the day they both went into surgery was the worst day of my life. However the aftermath wasn't as bad as I would have thought.
They went to Pediatric Urology Associates in Westchester, and their surgeon (who I loved) is were very well known for this type of operation.
One of my boys actually had to go for a second operation on it, but I knew what to expect.
