Hi! I am a worried mom who recently found out that my 2 year old has a loose tooth that is infected and causing infection in the left side of his face. We can either do a tooth extraction or a root canal. I am very confused about which option is better (our dentist recommends tooth extraction). Does anyone else have any experience with this? Also, anyone have any recommendations for dentists in the Frisco, Mckinney,Plano area that could perform this procedure? Any help will be appreciated!
We use dr Morgan at Cambell and 75, he is great, he has done 3 baby root canals and pulled 3 baby teeth (ready to come out teeth, my son was 6.5 then) and my so is not scared of the dentist, he was awake all 3 tomes (twice for root canals).

I've personally had a tooth extraction of a permanent tooth and two root canals. I'll take the extraction any day! A root canal is one of the most difficult dental procedures I've ever had.
Since your little guy's tooth is a baby-tooth and already loose, the extraction shouldn't be too h*** o* him. There's really no reason to submit him to a root canal on a tooth that's going to fall out anyway!
I can't recommend anyone in Frisco, McKinney, Plano area; but, I have a terrific oral surgeon in Richardson. He's done all three of my children's wisdom teeth removal, as well as some primary and permanent tooth removal on my two sons. His name is Miro Pavelka
I know it can be so scary when something happens to your children. But, remember, it's generally harder on you than the child!

My 6 yr old just had an extraction done a few months ago. He had an extra tooth coming in behind where his permanent tooth would be coming in. When he went to the dentist, they gave him a oral liquid sedative which made him very sleepy. Next thing his tooth was out and he got a popsicle. Not traumatic at all for him and he felt nothing. Our dentist is Dr. Pearson at Wylie Children's Dentistry in Wylie. They only cater to children, the dentist is great and we love the hygienists and office ladies! My son actually LIKES going to the dentist!
Pull the tooth and let the adult teeth come in a few years.

I had a similar experience, my 4 year old had fallen and hit his mouth, we were worried about his teeth/gums so took him to a dentist that came very highly recommended by several of my friends. We went to him, were told that we needed to immediately remove the front 2 teeth to avoid infection, etc., and would need to fill like 5 or so cavities, and replace the teeth with temp teeth, etc. (SEVERAL thousand dollars of work!) So, I went and got a "2nd opinion" from the pediataric dentist we now use-- Dr. Sandy McDougal. She is absolutely wonderful and the kids love her! We've referred about 10 of our friends' kids to her and they all adore her as well! End result, she said we do NOT need to pull the teeth (he still has them today w/no problems!) and he did NOT have ANY cavities!!!
That being said, before you put your child through ANY of what you stated above, please go to her and get her opinion as well!
