My 15 month old is getting his eye teeth in and waking up every 2 hours during the night. We give him Tylenol and herbal teething drops but he's still waking up crying. Any advice w/b happily accepted.

What can I do next?

Yes, Tylenol is great for fever/colds...Motrin better for pain.
Just keep the dosage and frequency as it is supposed to be...

My kids liked to chew on frozen things at this time... dampened frozen washcloths, frozen banana, ice chips (my son's favorite).

It is a difficult time... but it will pass.

We did they Hyland's too... sometimes it helped, sometimes it didn't. I like the clove oil idea. I heard this also helps.

All the best,
susan

D.,

In my experience, ibuprophen works much better for teething pain than tylenol. Also, the herbal teething tablets make my son scream for days. He's allergic to dairy and the Hyland's ones have a "milk sugar base."

these are hard teeth to get in what i have to do with my daughter whos 22 months and getting the same teeth in is give her the regular dose of tylenol 1/2-3/4 dose of motrin and then the teething drops. her dr okayed this mixing. motrin is better for pain so maybe try that instead of tylenol all together. good luck!

try baby ibuprofen. it works better for teeth because it has pain reliever properties AND anti-inflammatory properties (it also lasts longer). if he's really in alot of pain at night, you can give him both the tylenol and ibuprofen. they are two different medicines and work on different parts of the pain pathway. also, i used hyland's teething tablets, humphrey's teething tablet's, and baby naturals' teething drops for my two children. they are all natural, and the liquid works great when they are small (or the middle of the night) and the tablets work good during the day for older infants, like your son. each of my kids preferred a different one, so that's why i gave you all three names. during the day, frozen wet washcloths saved both my kids alot of pain. just wet them and throw them in the freezer for about 10 minutes and let them chew them until they are warm, then repeat as often as needed. the texture helps break the teeth through and the cold helps relieve the pain. also, munchkin makes these mesh food holders (you can get them at walmart, target, grocery stores in the baby area) that you can stick ice cubes in and they can chomp on them without worrying about them inhaling the ice cube :) hope these suggestions help.

I use Motrin, you can dose every six hours instead of four, so it's less doses. Also, we used Hyland's Teething Tablets either directly in the mouth of in water, as directed. My friend also uses their Calms Forte 4 Kids for her one year old, but check with your son's Pedi since the label say '2 and up'.

This article was helpful...and we tried the clove oil on my son and it worked great at nighttime. My son's night like yours were every two hours, but for us it only lasted a couple of weeks...also, you can go to your local Whole Foods Store if you've got one around, and they have a great staff who can help you navigate through homepathic remedies.

Tylenol has been useless for my DD, who has had horrible teething pain for many months. we give her motrin, and hylands gel and drops.

Hylands teething tablets work wonderfully. Just dissolve in water and give the water to the baby. We used to dissolve in water and put the water in a dropper then squirt drops in the baby's mouth. Best of luck.

Teething tablets don't work for us at all. I have to resort to Motrin on the really bad days. Tylenol will usually do the trick. We too have many sleepless nights during teething. Sometimes bringing the little one to our bed will get us all a little more sleep. Good Luck! Once it passes, you forget how bad it was.

Baby oragel works great. . . Try wetting a towel and freezing it to teeth with.

Hi, Motrin works better than Tylenol because it reduces inflammation as well as relieving pain, and it works longer too. Good luck,

Maybe not exactly what you're looking for, but thick beef jerky that your son can chew on (but not break off pieces of) works wonders for teething. It tastes good and helps the teeth break through. Good luck.

Hi there!
oh this is such a hard time to go thru. We just survived my youngest daughters eye teeth. Just remember - this too shall pass :)

The best for us was baby orajel. use a etsy bitsy tiny spot ( size of a needle) head and rub it into the gums where you suspect it hurts - your baby will sleep like an angel.
you may want to try a bit on yourself to feel the strength - you need so very little.
good luck

Try using the Baby Oral Gel in the q-tip form. It is so easy to use and you can get it directly on the area that is hurting. You just break one end and the medicine drains to the end of the other tip. Plus it comes berry flavored. I used it on both of my kids and I didn't have to give them anything else.

Good luck

Hello Debbie,

the best thing that worked for my daughter when she was teething was to wrap a baby wash cloth around an ice cube and secure the cloth around it (I used a rubberband or hair tie - tie under the cube) and let her suckle on that. It cools and the babies love to suck the water from the ice. And since they are drooling so much from the teething it helps keeping them hydrated. You can also wet the washcloth before wrapping it.
Good luck,

D.

The best advice ever given to me was (and still is) frozen celery. The child can chew and chew on it. Only little pieces (not choking size) come off, and when the piece gets 'raggedy" looking (just strings left) toss it and give baby another one.

Other idea was to elevate the bed. I know this is usually used to help with ear infections, but it seemed to work with my babies when they were teething.

Best wishes!

hi D. my name is J. and my 14 month old son just got his eye teeth and not completely through yet! what me and my husband found that worked for our son is my husband tore up one of his plain white t shirts and damped it with water and put it in the freezer for a bout 1 hr, and my son sat and chewed on that for awhile, we did it right before he went to bed so that his teeth would be numb when he went to bed. i dont like to use alot of medicines i usually just let them fight it out but i gave in with these teeth and used baby night time orjel!! that helped him sleep as well as us and my daughter! and when my daughter was teething we let her chew on beef jerky the thick kind that really works too.. i hope my advice helps you out, good luck!
