Hello everyone,
Has anyone bought a Step 2 car bed and have any advice? Would you tell me your likes and/or dislikes? My husband really wants to get these beds for our twin boys and I like to do my research before making any large purchases.

What can I do next?

We bought my son's toddler bed off craigslist. It was only $50. I see the Step 2 car beds on there all the time. I bet that could really save you some money especially when you are buying two.

Hello E.,

My name is E.. I am 38 yrs old and I am a Wahm. I have 2 boys. My oldest is 7yrs and my little one is 1yr old. I had a Little Tikes (similiar to step2) Car bed for my oldest son. He loved it. Just a thought...I don't know if you would consider resale on this type of item but if you do you can check out consignment stores and craigslist. They are big and plastic and easy to clean and usually have a lot of life. I bought mine at resale and ended up re-selling it when my older son was done with it. I will most likely do this when my little one gets a bed.

Good Luck!

Hi there...
I had a step2 car bed for my oldest son. He loved to play on it, and climb on it, but when it came to sleeping in it... he hated it. We ended up getting rid of it, and never used it for my other 3 children. We have found that the kids actually do much better in a twin size bed. If they have grown out of the crib... why would you use the same size bed? I never really got that with toddler beds. I found that my kids felt too "cramped" in the crib size bed, and they woke up often because they would bang their arms or legs on the sides. Simply put... they grew out of the crib size bed! Once we transitioned to a twin bed, they slept beautifully. We didn't use a box spring, so the mattress was closer to the floor. We just put a bed rail up, and they were fine!

Hi E.,
I'm not sure if the Step 2 beds are the same as the Little Tikes, but I've got the toddler-sized Little Tikes bed, and my 6-yr.-old is still sleeping in it. He loves it. I personally find it easier to make than the standard toddler bed, b/c you can just lift the mattress and tuck covers underneath without rails getting in the way. It's low enough to the ground that they can get in and out easily and won't get hurt if they happen to roll out, which my kids never did. It's a little bigger than the standard toddler bed as far as frame size, but as long as you have the space, that's not a problem. My boys really liked this bed, and I had no complaints. I especially liked the fact that it sat right on the ground, so I didn't have to wonder what they had stuffed under their bed! I don't think I would go with the twin, just because it takes up so much space, and because then when they get sick of it, you have to get a regular twin bed -- too much expense. I got mine second-hand, so the expense was minimal. Also, if you're buying two, you may be able to get a discount -- never hurts to ask. Good luck.

I would definitly buy the twin size beds not toddler size. That way your boys can use them untill they're teenagers. the only thing I didn't like about the bed is that its difficult to sit on the egde on the bed (you have to get right in it) and it kinda hard to tuck in a comforter.
They are what your boys will remember best about their childhood.

Hi!

We purchased our son the Toddler Step 2 Fire Engine bed. Pros? It made going to bed a snap - he loved the truck. Used a familiar mattress (crib size). In retrospect I wish I would have gotten the twin-size instead of the toddler, because they grow so fast.

Hi E., My son loved his crib, he was crawling in and out to go to the bathroom at nite but didn't like the twin size. My brother bought the racing car bed and first nite was so exciting for him. He loved it so much and couldn't wait to go to sleep everynite. We bought another for my mom's house for naps and sleep overs, that's how well it went. I passed them for the same reason to a friend and she said exactly the same thing. I think they are very safe and make it easy for in and out access.

Good luck

We also have the fire truck bed, partially because we got it for free. It's great. The sides are high enough that you don't need rails. The "doors" of the truck are how you get in and out, and that's the only way you can fall out at night. My son fell out twice in two years. It's so low to the ground, they don't get hurt just surprised.

Mattress is same as crib, so we can easily change sheets between his bed and his sisters crib.

He loves it! Good luck with your twins! Christy Y
