Seeking Advice on Pre-natal Remedies

I am 3 months pregnant with my 2nd child. The flu has passed its way through my little family and I thought it had passed me over. I have a low grade fever and have congestion, headache and body aches. Other than Tylenol, are there any other home remedies to relieve the symptoms of the flu that are safe for a pregnant woman? I know I can't take a decongestant. Any of you homeopathic savy moms know how I can get some relief so that I can keep up with my two-year-old?

What can I do next?

That is going around big time. You can take Sudafed-check with your Dr. but it's always been ok when I was prego. Just nothing with Iboprofen or Aspirin which I'm sure you already know. You can always ask the pharmacist as well. It sounds like you need an antibiotic though(low-grade fever, chest congestion), and there are many your Dr. can prescribe you while pregnant(Amoxicillan, Z-pack...). Also, possibly put a vaporizor in your bedroom while you sleep. You can add Vicks to help with the congestion. Take your vitamins, get plenty of vitamin C, fluids, and rest. Hope you feel better soon :-)

Believe it or not chicken soup can actually help you feel better. Here is an article I found on WebMD and it has some suggestions for medication:

But make sure you check with your doctor before taking anything.
Hope you feel better!

This sounds very gross, but to help with congestion and to avoid a sinus infection use a nasal flush. I started using them when I was pregnant with my first and got very sick. I used a home remedy of salt and warm water then, but my allergist recently recommended a system sold at Walgreens (can't remember the name right now) that is easier to use. You just mix the warm water and the med packet and flush all the gross stuff out of your nose. We even used it on our 5 year old when he was sick recently and it really helped him, especially at night.

As far as the other symptoms, I really don't know what you can do, but you really should try the flush, it really works!

When I was pregnat the Dr. told me i could take sudafed for the conjestion , and also the naisal spray. Just becareful your nose will get used to it. The other thing you might try is Vicks vapor rub on the bottom of your feet at night with socks on. I dont know how it works but it will clear you nose. Good luck

I had a severe cold at about that time in my pregnancy. My OB said I could take Sudafed so long as it was the one they sell behind the pharmacy counter (with psuedoephedrine)- not the one in front. I too have a two year old so I did take it for a couple of days to help me stay sane. Drink your chicken soup and stay hydrated too. That will help the most. I also used the Vicks Vapor Rub and a humidifier. Basically, treat yourself like you would your toddler :) Good luck and feel better soon. The worst part is watching hubby be able to take that wonderful Nyquil and us not being able to touch it!!!!

One thing that always seems to help is the humidifier/vaporizor. That is the only thing i know that will really help with decongestion that is not medicine. Also good old chicken noodle soup always helps!

I ended up in the ER 2 weeks ago with the flu, high fever, and I'm 28 weeks pregnant. I was dehydrated. Make sure you drink A LOT!!!! My OB did give me Vicadine, not sure on the spelling, and it helped break my fever and relieved me of my aches. Hope you start feeling better soon.
