I have a 15 month old that is a horrible teether. I am not talking about just a little fever and being fussy. I am talking full blow fever of 103 degrees, diahrea, screaming, not eating, runny nose... the works. She has having a really hard time right now with her 6th tooth, she didn't start getting teeth until she was 12 months. And every tooth it is the same thing. I have tried everything: Teething Tablets, Tylenol, IbProfen, Popsicles, Orajel, Cloves, frozen fruit, anything that I can get my hands on that is cold and that she will stick in her mouth to eliviate the pain. As I am 16weeks pregnant with our second, the night time screaming is getting so h*** o* me physically and she doesn't want her daddy, just me, so I am at my wits end right now. Anyone have any advice on anything else I can use? I would love some more suggestions. ANYTHING!!! I am a little desperate right now!

What can I do next?

Try chamomilla - which is a homeopathic remedy. PERFECT for rage with teething. When the child is angry with the pain, it works like a miracle.

I agree that letting her sleep with you would be a good thing, even if she can only lay there and snuggle you'll both still get some needed rest. When my daughter was little I gave her Humphys 13 teething tablets, they worked better then Hylands even though they seem to have the same things in them. I have been told by my step daughter that sometimes Walgreens carries them or can order them for you, the name no longer has the 13 on it. The other things I did was rub the tynol right into her gums, it worked better then having her takeit, and when all else failed I used Blackberry Brandy, rubbed on her gums, you are not using enough to hurt her, it will have no long trerm effects ect. But there are alot of OLD TIME Remedies that really do work and won't harm the child. Also try a heating pad on low, sometimes heat will help also. Good Luck

Hi K.-
Have you taken her to the pediatrician to check for an ear infection(s)? Teething and ear infxn's can have alot of the same symptoms from what I've experienced with my 2 sons. Also, I think one of the other moms was mentioning teething tablets, which it sounds like you have tried. The ones I used were Hyland's Teething tablets. You can find them at Whole Foods and Fred Meyer. They are all natural.
I hope for you a resolve to all of this soon. Hang in there.

K.,

The only other thing I can think of is this: If she only wants you to comfort her, let her sleep with you for comfort. If she want you for comfort and she's in bed with you, all she has to do is roll over or turn her head and she will be able to smell you and be comforted.

My daughter is 16 months old and has 6 teeth. I feel you. There are some nights where the *only* way to get her to sleep is to cuddle with her in my bed. I don't do it often because I'm afraid of rolling over in the middle of the night and squishing her, but when the only thing to get her to sleep is Mommy, then that's what she gets.

As long as you keep it only on the nights where she's having a *really* hard night it shouldn't affect her sleeping on her own. There are those times where we gotta bend the rules or break them to make everybody happy.

Hope this helps,
Melissa

Hi K.,

Just a thought..Are you sure she is teething?? Teething isn't normally accompanied by high fever runny nose. How long has she been like this?? She could have a little virus such as rosola. If this is the case then she would get a rash after her fever breaks. If you haven't already I would take her in to see your physcian.

Hi,

I had the same problem with my son. I wish I could remember the name of the teething tablets I used. They come in a little blue bottle and they're 100% natural. You can buy them at any drug store and in some cases grocery stores. You mention that you've used teething tablets, but these worked so well for me...and I'm sorry that I can't remember the name. They also have vitamin C and other vitamins. They dissolved in the mouth as soon as they are placed on the tongue. They made life so much easier for me because at the time I was working full-time and my husband was working on his masters at UW...sleep was a needed source.

If you haven't yet, I would talk to your Doctor. I've heard of a procedure that they cut the gums to allow the teeth to cut through the gums much easier. Your childs teeth might be having a hard time going through the gums and thats why she's so fussy.

I hope this helps:). Hang in there.

We use hazelwood necklaces. They are an old native american remedy to help with teething pain. The hazelwood apparently has the property of absorbing the body's excess acid. We just discovered them and they have been a miracle for healing our 7 month's old eczema(they help with a variety of ailments from teething, to eczema, to acid reflux; all associated with excess acid production) and helping with our just turned 2 year old's teething (he's gotten like 10 teeth in the last 3 months including 4 molars..he was a late teether) The necklaces are designed to be safe for babies to wear in case that's a concern. I know it sounds weird, but it might be worth a try...they work great for us. The website where you can get them is www.hazelaid.com
I hope your LO feels better soon. Teething sucks!

After trying all the things you did with my first (21 yrs ago) my step father (a dentist) told me the trick i think he waited till i tried everything i could think of and failed before offering me the advice (maybe from going through my teenage years and paying me back for my alian behavior or something lol anyhow get the thin washclothes like from wallmart and soak in water then freeze in individual zip locks and just give them a frozen cloth to numb the area my kids all loved it and since just water no un needed medicine etc and then when the tooth is starting to buldge in the gum area just put your finger in any kind of drinking alcohol just a dip (this will numb and steralize area) then push gently through the layers of gum once tooth is through then dosent hurt anymore what hurts them is the process of going through layers of gum to get out but the frozen washclothes were really a life savor until such time as the tooth was ready to just get a gentle nudge through good luck wait till the teen age years hit- this stage returns then all the best T.

I use an amber teething necklace for my son. I'm not 100% sure that it helps a bunch, but I was like you and desperate for anything. Many people swear by them. They are not for chewing on, they just wear them and the healing properties of the amber go through the skin. I got it here: http://hyenacart.com/inspiredbyfinn/
So, we do that (on all the time) and ibuprofen. He got his 3 eye teeth at the same time and was miserable. We at least were able to tolerate it all. Good luck!

Teething does not cause fevors or diahrea. The illness comes from bacteria introduced to the mouth where the child has an opening due to the tooth coming throught the gum.
I would talk to your babies doctor.

one is now a teenager......YIKES!
For teethig issues, I used the 'baby safe feeder' with a frozen banana in it for my kids to chew on, they loved it.
you can find the BSF at Babies R Us. I also used 'Highland teething tablets'. They do have Lactose, so if your baby can not tolorate lactose (sugar) don't use. The HTT are sold at most stores.
