Hi S., I live in the Downriver area and my children have been seeing Dr. Dagnew for about 10 years. I had another doctor that I did not care for and then I found Dr. Dagnew and she is wonderful. Her office is on Northine RD. in Southgate at the Oakwood Heathcare Center (right across the street from Sam's Club).. There are about 5 other pediatricians in this office and if Dr. Dagnew is not accepting any new patients then I would recommend any of the others in this office.. I've met each of them and they are all terrific... Good Luck!!

I like Dr. Wilson at Pediatric Associates of Dearborn, on Monroe. She's really down to earth and has 4 children of her own, so she shares her personal trials and can relate to her patients and their parents. The PAD treats the whole family, they ask a lot of questions about what is going on in the house, etc. They always fit me in when the kids are sick. They work out of Oakwood hospital. They also have a great nursing team, one of whom is a lactation concultant. Their phone number is: ###-###-####

Congratulations on your new baby... Take time to enjoy him or her!

S., I was in your shoes 5 years ago. Except that I am an "older" mom and did not know where to begin because all my friends and acquaintances had grown children. I asked the nurses at the hospital based on their experience there and my OB and they all came back with the same answer, Dr. Dinesh Nayak. He is wonderful as is his entire office. He is on Northline Road in Southgate. ###-###-####. (Pediatric and Adolescent Center). Good Luck!!!

I take my 4 yr old son (and will take my soon to be born daughter) to Dr. Saba Cossor (Child and Adolescent Center) in Southgate on Trenton Rd. S of Eureka. It's a practice of 3 Drs., and Dr. Cossor is my son's primary pediatrician. She is young so I know she won't be retiring anytime soon. She has a great bedside manner with my son and goes over each exam/stage of growth/etc. with care and concern - she doesn't run a drive through practice. The practice is open 7 days a week (Sat/Sun by appt)!

I was in your situation a few months ago. We wanted a family practitioner though. My doctor recommended Dr. Vanderbroek in Trenton on West Rd. We've been seeing her for 5 months. She is great. I like the fact that if one of us has an issue while we are at an appointment for one of our other family members she will check them out too.

Hi S. ~
As an OB nurse, we refer alot of people to Dr. Nayak on Northline in Southgate...Dr. Bronni and Dr. Hanasoge are with him. My grandsons go there, and several of the staff go there. He is VERY nice!

Dr. Cossor is on Trenton Rd in Southgate, with Dr. Boriboon, Dr. Li....they're also good.

Dr. Vanderbroek on West in Trenton as a family practice doctor is really nice...she works pretty much out of Southshore Hospital.

I have used a family practice doctor since my son was about 4 yrs old. I do really like that one doctor for all of us, and he knows us. We see Dr. Bush on Pennsylvania in Riverview.

Family practice doctors are just as up on everything your baby needs as a pediatrician is.

What hospital are you delivering at? I work at Wyandotte.

You can always ask family/friends who they see and if they like them. Also, go for a visit! Find out if you can get appointments quickly when your child's sick...what their policies are...etc. And of course, check to see who your insurance covers.
good luck!
D.

We love Dr. Maura O'Connell in Riverview at Riverview Family Health on Fort and Sibley. She's the main pediatrician there, but there are other nurse practioners or even after-hours clinics with other family practice physicians if you have to go when she's not in. She is young (mid-30's), has two little girls, and is pregnant right now with twins, so she'll be out for 6 weeks in the late summer/early fall. But she's fantastic!! Good luck!
