I'm not sure what denomination you are, or if it matters, but we really enjoy Castle Hills Baptist (right off 410 on Military). My husband is currently assigned to BAMC b/c of being injuried in Iraq, and we started looking for a good church and have really enjoyed Castle Hills. It's a little larger than I like, but they have great things for the kids AND adults.

I just found a GREAT church last Sunday and plan on attending again this weekend. It's called Westover Hills Assembly of God, and it's located on Westover Hills Blvd between Hunt Lane and Culebra. They have three services on Sunday morning (8:30, 10, 11:30) and one on Saturday night. Check out their website at www.whag.net for more info. Good luck and God bless you!

I'm not sure how far this would be for you. But I attend Bandera Road Community Church. They are located on Bandera Rd and Braun, across from OP Schnabel Park. I love the worship and biblical teachings I cab understand. You don't have to get all fancy to come either. Good luck.

Y.,

Like another responder, I do not know what you are looking for; however, I am writing to ENCOURAGE you in your church search. God will direct you and help you to find the perfect place for you to worship and fellowship with Him and with other believers. My husband and I spent two years visiting churches and looking for a home. Last May, we came to Mamasource with some specific attributes we were seeking. You can go into past Mamasource church request postings by clicking on the Requests and Responses tab on the toolbar, then select Religion and Spirituality from the list of Categories on the left. This will bring up a list of ALL of the past requests/responses related to seeking churches. Your request will be listed at the top and my request is the 7th down the page, dated May 03, 2008. By clicking on my request, you can see more recommendations for churches in NW San Antonio (as well as other "seeking church" requests.)

I must say that, although we were very specific on the type of church we were hoping to find, that we were always in prayer and confident that God would lead us to the place that He wanted us to serve. And He has. And, in some ways, it is 180 degrees from the "experience" we were seeking when I posted in May. But, there is no doubt that Jesus continues to guide our path. He will do the same for you!

Since I do not know what you are seeking, I will give a brief list of attributes (and needs) for the church we now attend, Jefferson Church of Christ, so that you might know if it is a place you would like to check out:

Great Things/Strengths:
- It is a 100% Bible-based gathering, with its priorities being (1) love of Jesus; (2) clear, simple teaching the Holy Bible, with inspired Scripture being our means to understand and obey God's will/plan; and (3) with love of and concern for each other, as "our neighbor" (members and other believers, everywhere, and those who do not know our Lord).
- It is a church with a SWEET, SWEET Spirit; it is a loving congregation that feels and acts like the FAMILY that the church should be. This is a welcoming, dedicated group of Christians that attend regularly Sunday mornings, Sunday and Wednesday evenings.
- For "stirring our souls" in the collective worship experience, there is nothing like having the whole congregation worshiping God together by singing traditional hymns! Older, traditional hymns have incredibly inspiring, theologically-mature and often Bible-based lyrics. The music here is traditional hymns, in a congregational singing style.

Opportunities/Needs:
- We need a new music leader. This desire comes straight from the lips and heart of the current, long-time music leader who WANTS to relinquish the post. He is elderly and was injured in a fall in the early spring. His recovery has been remarkable and he is such a precious spirit and dedicated servant. But the fall damaged his hearing. He is having difficulty trying to faithfully serve and he knows that we need a new singing leader, which will relieve the pressure/burden upon him. For anyone out there whom God is inspiring to act upon a singing ministry, this may be your place!
- We need to grow and welcome all. This church has GOOD spaces for Sunday school classes and Bible studies that are going under-utilized. Adults currently meet, for all sessions, in the Main Sanctuary because dividing into classes would diminish an already small gathering. We welcome all ages, but especially younger families with children and teens (we do have a few young families and a small group of children/teens that would WELCOME any addition to their numbers.) The present population is primarily older, mature Christians with an amazing ability to love on, guide and mentor younger, developing Christians and those seeking a relationship with God. There are a good number of people here with long-time ministry and missionary experiences.

If any of our strengths or opportunities trigger a nudge from God to join us, we joyfully INVITE YOU TO VISIT and will WELCOME you with Christian love. Here is the location and service times:

Jefferson Church of Christ
702 Donaldson Ave
San Antonio, TX 78201
###-###-####

Sunday Morning: 9:30 AM - 10:15 AM Sunday School
10:30 AM - 11:30 AM Worship

Sunday Evening: 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM Bible Teaching

Wednesday Evening: 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM Bible Teaching or Congregational Singing

A side benefit for us has been the convenient, central location (Jefferson Terrace & Monticello Park areas) where the church is right across the street from Thomas Jefferson High School. We live in the Oak Hills area and with gas prices getting so high, did not want to "commute" to church. This fellowship is a good location for anyone on the west central or NW side (our current membership primarily ranges from the Medical Center, north of Loop 410 to KellyUSA south of Hwy 90, and stretching eastward from Stotzer Fwy beyond the IH-10 corridor to the Blanco Rd. area.)

God bless you, Y., as the Lord leads you to the place that He wants you to serve Him and be nurtured in the fellowship and love of fellow believers. I have shared some verses, below, that encourage me regarding seeking fellowship and a church home.

In Christ,
K.

1 Corinthians 1:9 - "God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful."

Hebrews 10:25 - "Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching."

1 John 1:3 - "We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ."

Acts 2:42 - "They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer."

Romans 12:4-5 - "For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another."

Matthew 12:50 - "For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother."

Ephesians 1:15-23 - "For this reason I too, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which exists among you and your love for all the saints, do not cease giving thanks for you, while making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all."

Philemon 1:6 - "I pray that the fellowship of your faith may become effective through the knowledge of every good thing which is in you for Christ's sake."

Churchs can be such a personal choice, but if you like a more contemparary song time and a modern day application to the Bible, then BRCC also known as Banderra Road Community Church is a church to try out! I love the Sunday School enviroment for my son, and he loves it, too. I fell so uplifted everytime I leave, with a song in my heart, ultimitly who could ask for more? :)
