Imagine oatmeal stuck to the bottom of the sink. I have scrubbed with a hard brush with cleaning products and I can not get it off. What magic things have you all come up with to get stains and Yuck off a porcelin sink ?????
Blessings to all of you.

What can I do next?

Soft scrub and Bar keepers friend, Bon Ami all work great. Use lots of scalding water. You can
boil it.

I hope this helps.

Make a paste of baking soda and dish soap and let it set on there awhile. Then fill the bottom of the sink with water for a bit and that stuff should come right off. Baking soda is good for dang near anything.

Hi S.,

Just fill the bottom of the sink with warm water and let it sit till whatever's there will loosen up an can be removed. As far as stains, I always use Comet with bleach. I will sprinkle it over the entire sink, use little water so it becomes like a paste. After I scrub it all over I let is set for about an hour then rinse. The bleach in it works wonders... good luck!

First, a good soaking! (I'd do it overnight. if your sink refuses to hold the water in, then at least lay a thick WET rag/hand towel over top of the gunk to keep it moist so it will soften up to scraping/scrubbing)
Then BarKeepers Friend - ooh wow, this works GREAT on white sinks with scuff marks and the like (even rust marks!) It's a gold colored can with blue label and white lettering - a shaker scrubber thing like Comet or Ajax. BKF is GREAT for white sinks and I've continued to be pleased with it in our stainless steel sink.

For my sinks I do what my mom has done for years.
Take scalding hot water and add some bleach to it.
Leave it there over night and if has not trinkled down the drain slowly over the night then I pull the plug.
My sinks are then clean and no longer stained.

I've always had good luck with a sink FULL of very hot water and some bleach, let soak for about an hour. Then scour with bar keepers friend (found at walmart next to comet and such). The result is a nice shiny sink:-)

I would first suggest soaking with water overnight - if that doesn't soften it you might need to use a pumice stone - if the sink is porcelain it shouldn't scratch but test it in an inconspicuous area first. Comet works great for just about any stain and scum issue - if you let is sit on it long enough and use a green scrubbie. I also know of a completely natural and non-toxic to humans concentrated cleaner that can be diluted to whatever strength necessary and is safe and effective at cleaning everything from your sink and counter tops to your kids toys to your veggies just to name a few things - plus proceeds from the use of it are going to preserve the Amazon rain forest. If you are interested in more info about it feel free to contact me.

Steel wool works great!! I just get them at walmart. The copper ones fall apart too easily but the silver ones are fantastic!

Try soaking in 2" of water with about a cup a vinegar. Drain. Then scrub with a ceramic safe ScotchBrite-type pad and either Bon Ami or Barkeeper's Friend.

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser or the like works well for me. You can use a little dishwasher detergent as well. Hope that helps.

Have you tried hot water? Get the water going the hottest it can get and make sure to wear gloves so that you don't burn yourself. You can try to scrape it off while it's running or you can close the drain and let the hot water sit for a few minutes in the sink. It should melt off the oatmeal. You can also use Goo Gone, it comes with a little plastic scraper.

Hi S., something that worked really well for me was soft scrub and white vinegar. For example, I decided to put soft scrub and warm/hot water in my sink so I could mop my floor. After I was all done and drained my sink. It was so sparkling clean, especially around the drain area. That's how I discovered that. Then I used white vinegar around my faucet where the water comes out. I get that green calcium build up there. I took a baggy and held it around the faucet so it soaked in it. I could here the sizzling of the vinegar eating at the calcium and then I just scrubbed it away. So maybe plug your sink and pour some white vinegar with a little water and let it soak for a while. Also, did you try magic eraser? Just be careful with the magic eraser because it will take the shine off some things. Good luck! Sorry this is so late.

On a side note to the wonderful advice, if your sink won't hold water, buy one of those rubber, flat drain covers and use that to hold the water in...

If all the advice given has failed....
Pull the sink out and sand it then give it a fresh new look with Porcelin spray paint that you can buy at any hardware store. It would be like having a new sink!
Good luck!

I used to have a porcelin sink and I used to fill it with water and bleach and let it sit overnight. It always came out sparkling and smelled so clean! You might also want to visit the website or get the book called "The Queen of Clean". She has a few books out there and there are all kinds of cleaning tips for all areas of your house. Good luck.

For stains I use the 'Magic Eraser'. You can buy the Mr. Clean brand or generic at your local Grocery Store. It works for black scuffs on walls, my child's easel looks brand new again, the bottom of the tub, etc. It's wonderful! Like any other cleaner, just don't let your children play with it.Good luck!

I shop with a "green" company. The products have no harsh chemicals. They have a number of products that may clean up your sink, and make it look bright again. Tub & Tile and
Sol-U-Mel diluted with water is a good choice. However, never use Tub & Tile on marble or granite surfaces.

Do you have a little brown pampered chef scraper? I would boil water on the stove, block sink and fill it with the boiling hot water. Let it soak then use the scraper to get the oatmeal off. Works like a charm.

What works really well for me & also gets rid of black marks too is Cascade dishwasher liquid, Soft Scrub or Clorox or Ajax, my favorite is the Cascade. Anyway, just put whatever you choose into your sink & using a wet Greenie pad, scrub! It works for me on my porcelin sink & it doesn't scratch. But it might take some elbow grease to get it off depending how bad it is. Good luck!
