Does anyone know who to contact, or where to go, for help with school supplies. Trying to help someone, who may not be able to go and buy everything she needs, for her three kids. Recently they've aquired alot of medical bills, and I know she could use the help. She has so much on her plate, I don't want it to be another thing she has to worry about.

Thanks!

I agree with the other mother that Metrocrest services helps with assistance for school supplies and I know Irving Bible is doing some kind of assistance for school supplies in Aug.

Please contact me for more info and I will be happy to help.

I would talk to the counselor at the school they attend. The school I work at always has extra supplies on hand for kids who need them.

Many of the churches have programs for back to school supplies. Try contacting churches. I think Vista Ridge UMC in Lewisville/Coppell?? has a back to school drive.

Also, Metrocrest Services in Carrollton off Beltline and I35 might be able to assist her and her family.

Depending on the school her children attend, she might be able to explain her circumstances and they will help. I work in public school and we try to assist parents within reason when times are tuff.

There are local agencies that can help that are funded partially by United Way. They are geographically based. For example, if your friend lives in Allen, Lucas or Fairview, they could use Allen Community Outreach - www.acocares.org. You could even call ACO and find out which agency serves her city. ACO does a huge school supply drive and I would imagine that the other organizations do too. Good luck!

Walmart usually has the supply lists for all the schools in that area. They are usually up front when you first walk in.

What a wonderful friend you are! She is very blessed.

If you want to personally help. I am sure you can call the school and tell them you would like to buy school suplies for this specific child. When my daughter went to kinderguarten I wanted to buy more suplies to help since they are so cheap before school (crayons $.20 glue $.20 paper $.10 etc). The back pack and lunch box are the most expensive. I went to Walmart told them I wanted to buy supplies for 2 other children. I think they gave me a $20 gift certificate to help me out and was tax deductable. But I did need to show the schools tax id number. Remember you can right it off as a donation on your taxes!! The money you spend is not as much as what it sounds like they need. It sounds like they would really appreciate it. L.

Tell her to contact the school they attend. I know we had to have help last year with uniforms and the school was able to give us gift certificates to get one each for the boys! We managed to scrounge for school supplies, but most school can and will help with those also! Just speak to the counselor and even if the school doesn't or can't help, they should know where she can go to get them...

If you personally wanted to help, try the district webpage. Most campuses post there. If it is not there, call the school and see if you can get a copy. Now is a great time to find cheap school supplies, crayons for $.15 folders for a penny, glue for $.20 are just a few I saw in the ads yesterday.
