Hi Mommies,

I'm doing some research for preschools in the Torrance area for my 2 yr old.

I've checked 'Leap and Bound Academy' which seems reasonably priced if you want to start part time -2-3 days a week.
Somebody also told me about La Primera School which is about the same.

Does anybody have good/bad reviews for any of these schools? Or any other recommendations?

Also, any ideas for Mommies Day Out in the Torrance area?

Please let me know,

Hello N.,

You should try Riviera PlaySchool in Redondo Beach. The program is exceptional, the pricing is mid-ranged, and the credentialed staff is wonderful. This is the only preschool in the greater area that offers hiking, music and motion, and thematic nature-based units in an experiential setting.

My son did Friends and Fun and the other one at McMasters Park through the city for about one year. Made some real friends and the teachers there (Miss Tanya and Miss LaDonna) are the nicest sweetest bestest teachers EVER! My son loved them both. Then both my son and daughter did a year of Torrance Tykes at Edison where they now attend elementary school. By the end of the Tykes program they could read their own names (and many of their friends), could write their own names (first and last) and new all their letters and numbers to ten by sight. Not to mention it really got them prepped for the kindergarten schedule and helped them learn to socialize. I would highly suggest both programs.

Hi N.,

All 3 of our children have attended (1 still does) Southwood Preschool. All have gone three 1/2 days per week. They have drive through drop off in the mornings which is fantastic is you have more than one child...and their day includes snacks and lunch. Their curriculum is very academic...and our kids have always come home with the most amazing little crafts and projects. We've always been very happy with our decision to use this school :)

Good luck!

Hi N. Leaps and bounds is great, the Lutheran preschools are also very popular and enriching for our babies! Take a look at Good Shepherd Preschool on Victor St. Between Anza and Henrietta off of Torrance Blvd.
good luck, D.

Hi N.,
What are you looking for in a preschool and what are you looking to pay monthly? This would help. Are you looking for three days? More? Part time? Full time? Also, what is the purpose of sending your 2 yr old to preschool at this time? Social skills or necessity because of your job? These answers all make a difference. =0)

My son is currently enrolled in Future Stars Academy located on PCH past Penn Ave in Lomita. It is a pretty good preschool program and offer all day daycare. I like their curriculum which is always full of fun.

My son attends La Primera and he absolutely loves it. The teachers are wonderful and I highly recommend it. Not only do I approve of their curriculum (I'm an elementary school teacher), I strongly support the social skills that that teach and enforce. It has been a wonderful experience for our entire family.

The Best program and the most reasonable is the preschool program through South Bay Adult School. This operation has been running an amazing program for over 30 years. Here is their link.

All the teachers carry CA credentials. The Hermosa Location is not too far from Torrance, and the afternoon Pre-K is from 1230-4pm T,Wed,Thr. We just finished the program in June. Call Judy Spragg - the organizer and find out more!

Good Luck
