I'm looking to move from the City to the suburbs (without getting too far from the city). I am interested in Mt. Prospect, but can't tell which school district is "the district" to be in. I looked at Park Ridge too (I work in Park Ridge), but it's a little out of our price range. Any recommendations are welcome!

Depending on where you move to in Mount Prospect will determine which district school you can go to, public or catholic. You can google District 57 and it will give you info on the schools. My kids went to Euclid (Elementary), River Trails (Middle, Lions Park, and Lincoln Junior High (middle) and while it is a bit off for your girls, Prospect High School. Great school. Many have been nominated as "Blue Ribbon Schools" by the state.

District 57 also has Fairview (elementary). If you find a place to live you can look up the Mount Prospect district map and find which school is nearest to you.

The following is from the website:

District 57 operates four schools: Westbrook School for Young Learners, Fairview Elementary School, Lions Park Elementary School, and Lincoln Middle School. Students attend Westbrook for our Early Childhood program, Before and After School program and Kindergarten. Students from Fairview and Lions Park attend middle school at Lincoln, and upon graduation from eighth grade, most District 57 students attend Prospect High School in Township High School District 214.

We live in Mt. Prospect and are in District 59. My daughter attended Brentwood Elementary, Friendship Junior High and will go to Prospect High School which is one of the top high schools in the state. I have been very pleased with District 59. Their website is http://www.ccsd59.org/

Hi-

I live in Mt. Prospect, District 57. We are okay here; they have half-day kindergarten at a district-wide early ed building (pre-school and kindergarten) 2 elementaries and 1 middle school. I believe the kids go to Prospect High after middle school.

I don't know what to tell you about the district and pros and cons; when we moved here, we didn't necessarily plan on having children, but do now. There's positives and negatives about every district; I guess it depends on what's important to you education-wise. Is special ed important or gifted? What else are you looking for? I'm a teacher in another district, so I tend to be a bit critical in ways that most parents aren't. I know District 59 also serves some of Mt. prospect, as well as 26, which is River Trails. I believe 59 has more Spanish-speaking ELL students, whereas 57 is more Polish and a variety of other languages; just my impression, but I could be wrong.

If you have any specific questions, I can answer them. I currently have a kindergartener and 1st grader, one who has an IEP, and both who qualify as gifted intellectually, but the gifted program doesn't begin until 3rd grade in our district.

Feel free to ask questions, and I will answer as best as I can. 57 IS getting a new superintendent next year; the current one is retiring.

My personal experience with both Districts 57 and 59 has been excellent, both as a student and a parent. I've lived in various parts of Mount Prospect since 1966, so if you have any specific questions, please feel free to message me back.
