School Halloween Treat Bags - 3Rd Graders

Hi Mommas,
I'm planning one of the games at my 3rd grader's class. I need some ideas of items to put in the prize bags. It can't be too expensive, because I have to put together 21 of them. We're not allowed to include any food, so no candy. And I feel like 8-10 year olds are not going to be interested in spider rings, vampire teeth, etc.

What ideas do you have for slightly older kids?

Thanks!

What can I do next?

Glow sticks - they are great for anyone at any age.
Try Party City and Oriental Trading - they'll have all sorts of stuff for prize bags.

3rd graders will STILL like the bats, rings, eyeballs, teeth, etc.
Pencils, pencil grips, erasers, slap on bracelets, troll dolls, etc are also hits.
Packs of microwave popcorn?

I put together prizes for my son's 3rd grade Halloween party and believe me they still like vampire teeth and spider rings. Erasers were a hit as were Halloween pencils. And the glow stick suggestion is fantastic.

ETA: I forgot to say this was LAST year's party, so I do know they were thrilled with those erasers!

My son is in 2nd grade, but I know he and his friends would love the spiders, vampire teeth, tattoos. The also love those sticky frogs (anything that is sticky or can jump) you can get at Walmart.

Honestly, some of the party favors at Walmart are really stupid or really cheep, but there are some that the kids love. I would look at the Halloween section for favors but also the birthday section, as some of those are cheep gems.

And just about anything that can glow in the dark will be a big hit.

I order most of my Halloween goodies from Oriental Trading. I have a ton of children come through because I also substitute teach at the school and my house is a favored spot to stop for the students.

I try to limit the candy but I will have some. Right now I have 200 glow bracelets, 3 dozen glow sticks, about 300 erasers, 144 Halloween pencils, 144 glow in the dark vampire teeth and some leftovers from last year which are Halloween note pads, temporary tattoos, and jumping spiders.

I have kids of all ages come through and the favorite is always the glow sticks, bracelets and necklaces.

Glow sticks? How about glow necklaces? Both boys and girls will wear those. But they can get pricey.

Halloween-themed pencils, erasers, pens, notebooks - any party store will have packages of miniature notebooks with Halloween covers. You can get pencils at party stores, dollar stores, even drugstores.I've seen Halloween-themed mini pens in different color inks in packages at the party and dollar stores. Ink pens are sometimes greatly liked by this age, especially if there's colored ink.

Please don't do the vampire teeth. I'm picturing kids sharing them around. As a parent of a kid who's been through this age already-- yeah, some kids are going to pass around those teeth, even at this older age. Think about it. Gross.

Get a big pack of Pokemon cards and put 3-4 in each bag.
Halloween pencils that they can use at school.
Lego keychains/minifigures
Do you have a $1 bookstore near you?

I agree with you - skip the cheap plastic toys and find something they'll actually like/use.

Why wouldn't they like spider rings and vampire teeth? My 2nd grader certainly would, and I'm sure she still will next year.

Pokemon cards ... Anything mine craft related .... Halloween glow sticks ....

Just found this ... http://blogs.babycenter.com/life_and_home/craft-a-spooky-... ... You could make this pretty inexpensively and let the kids pick which ghost color they what to be ... Since you're in Pittsburgh, you could even use yellow and black hats and be ghosts of Steelers past ... :)
