Does anyone know if transportation is or IS Not provided if your child goes through school choice? I see on the website it is to some options, the school says it is and I will get that information in the packet they will send out but the transportation department says NO - there is NO transportation provided through school choice. I am on my last hope of having transportation for my child. Thank you...

So What Happened?

School choice will NOT provide transporation for my child - which upsets me. Anyone who's child goes through school choice and is upset for the same reason - no transporation - be sure to email them and let them know. You can do that from the school choice website. Maybe if enough parents do this, they'll change.

I think it may depend on what county you are in. If you are in Pasco County transportation is NOT included in school choice. The only time transportation is included is if you are going to a different school within the county to gain access to services you child requires that is not offered at their regular school. For instance, my daughter is gifted and they do not offer a gifted curriculum at her school. If I chose to send my daughter to the nearest elementary school that offers a gifted curriculum they are required to provide transportation since that is the only way she can gain access to those services. Same thing with my neighbor's son who is autisitic. The elementary school in our neighborhood does not offer the appropriate services for autism, so she sends him to the elementary school in a different subdivision in our area and the school does provide transportation for that. However, if I just chose to send my daughter to a different elementary school because I thought they had better teachers, or a better art or music program, or because they had a better school "grade", so I just elected regular school choice, that does NOT include transportation. I am not sure if this is different in Hillsborough County or not, but I heard that it might be... however, that may also have chnaged for the upcoming school year given all of the new budget constraints schools are now faced with since we passed the property tax reform thing last November...

I enrolled my daughter in a school choice situation in Hillsborough County. Transportation called me to see if I needed a stop. Therefore, I assume the district provides transportation - at least in Hillsborough.

Good Luck.

School choice for Hillsborough County, does not provide transportation, unless you have filled under NCLB school choice, in which case it is limited to some schools for transportation. The packet you recieve from your school will not have transportation information in it. This year the transportation department will be mailing it seperatly to your home if your child will be riding a bus. You can try the link mentioned below but i'm rather certain it's not an option.

What school will you be at?
