Scar on Daughter's Lip

I'd be very leary of putting anti-scar cream on your daughter's lip, because there's no way that it'll sit there without getting ingested.

The other thing is that I've had 2 ankle surgeries. I used the stuff after the first one, cuz it was my first surgery and I didn't want a huge scar. The second time, I didn't bother. And there's no difference inthe two scars. (not that you can compare them, cuz the doc cut thru the scar to do #2 to take out the rod and pins put in to repair the initial break)

She's just about 2, so this is one of the things I would put "on my list" to ask her doctor at her 2 yr check up. Until then, I wouldn't worry about it. Usually young children heal better than adults do, so my guess is that it'll go away -- the other thing is that there might be an infection in there that is low enough down that it doesn't show up unless she smiles and her lip tissue tightens. If that's the case, it'll work its way to the surface. (like a pimple) but see what the doc says.

If it IS a scar and it STAYS a scar, she could probably have plastic surgery when she's older. But right now, if it doesn't bother her, I wouldn't put her through that.

My 19 mos old has a lil bump on his inner lower lip, his tooth went thru it a few mos ago. I have no idea if it will disappear or not, and since it's inside, can't really put anything on it, either. Let me know what u find out !!

I always check with the doctor before making any decisions especially since your daughter is so young. Little bodies are vulnerable and susceptible to so many things that we are immune. Even over the counter products could pose a problem. She may just need a long healing time or if a scar persists, a plastic surgeon now or when she is older could help minimize any scarring with the numerous, non-invasive procedures available now. Not sure about the scar treatment--just wanted to alert you to my situation following a mouth injury w/my son. He hit his tooth, apparently, and about 2 years later, a small abscess on his gum turned out to be from a tooth nerve that took 2 yrs to die off and it was an infection in his gum. He had to have the front tooth pulled to prevent it from damaging the permanent tooth....just keep an eye out for any gum abscess or pain in/near her teeth...it can take awhile to show up.

give it 2-3 years and see how it goes first way too early to do anything.

Scars can fade dramatically over time. She is only almost 2 and is still growing, so I would say that it probably isn't anything to worry about. My daughter had throat surgery that left her with a 5 inch scar. 4 years later, you can't even see it at all.
