My daughter has scabs on her head and she was born with them. I picked at it one day and it was like as if you get a sore on your head and the scab came right off but was no visible sore in that spot. They don't seem to be going away and they are only at the top of her head. What are they and how can I get rid of it?
It's cradle cap, pretty easy to get rid of, use lots of baby oil, message the scalp, eventually it will go away.
I used olive oil and a very soft tooth brush to gently rub our son's head (be careful of the soft spots) and then washed his hair to get the oil out.
Cradle cap is very common - it's nothing to worry about.
This is called cradle cap. Johnson's Baby Shampoo is good for this. B. is telling you right about the olive oil and soft brush. Just don't try to get it all off at once. It isn't hurting the baby to have it. It's just really h*** o* mommy to look at.
Do not give your baby ANYTHING by mouth for this. She is too little to digest it. She should only be taking formula and breastmilk.

It is caused by the baby overproducing oils in the scalp, which messes with the skin.
The best way to "combat" it is to VERY gently rub baby oil on the scalp, let it sit, then use a toothbrush to brush off the loose flakes. Don't try to force or peel any off.
Also, washing baby LESS often is more beneficial. Once or twice a week is plenty- more than that, and you wash the oils off the skin, which tells their body to produce more... Which makes the problem worse. It's a self-perpetuating cycle.
Most babies do get it, to varying degrees of severity. My daughter had really bad cradle cap, and a discussion with her pediatrician netted me the info I have shared.

Sounds like cradle cap and she will outgrow it. Try not too pick at it, though. While the cradle cap probably doesn't irritate her, your picking might. :)
If you are very concerned, mention it at your next pediatrician's visit.
All babies get this at our house we called it, "cradle crud"...but it is really called cradle cap.
First try, baby shampoo and a very very very soft baby brush to gently help it come off. If that doesn't stop it I believe you can use a tiny bit of dandruff shampoo and the same gentle brush to do the same thing.
It goes away in a couple of weeks...I just put a lot of hats on my kids during this phase.

Well, for babies that have bad cradle cap...it can show up when the child is a little older on other body parts as eczema.
Skin is a detox organ. There are may causes of eczema but one is from lack of essential fatty acids, or ...from toxic overload.
One of the cures online was ingesting raw flaxseed oil. Even raw virgin coconut oil.
I would not put any anti dandruff shampoo on it if it were my child. Too much toxins would be absorbed.
Use head and shoulders to was your babies hair.

It's most likely cradle cap, but I'd still get a doctor to verify. If it IS cradle cap, then you can use Head & Shoulders SENSITIVE to wash your baby's hair. One or two washes was all it took on my two youngest kids and it never came back.
I'd tried the baby oil and comb route, but it was just too messy and didn't even end up working on my kids. The dandruff shampoo worked wonders.
