Saturated Diaper

Hi all. I've been pretty happy with Pampers with my 14 month old. But occasionally - and way more frequently lately - she has been waking up with a very wet diaper. So much so that her jammies, her blankie, the sheet....everything is wet...all the way down to the mattress pad/cover. She's technically in the right size diaper for her weight but I'm wondering if I should go up a size to see if it's more absorbent before trying another brand entirely. I just really didn't like the fit of Huggies or a couple of the other more natural brands I tried when she was smaller. She eats dinner and might take some water from her sippy cup around 6:30 and then I nurse her before bed at 8 pm. I'm not producing that much milk and she doesn't stay long before pulling herself off to go to sleep so I didn't think it was too much liquid too close to bedtime but I'm playing with that. Any thoughts? Similar experiences?

What can I do next?

Try the Pampers Extra Protection diapers-their version of a nighttime diaper. My daughter started waking up soaked around that age as well, so we use the Extra Protection diapers at night and they work perfectly. Good luck!

Have you tried the special nighttime pampers? Sometimes going up a size causes gaps. My son went through phases like that. I would try the nighttime diapers (not the pull-ups, don't want to confuse you, sorry.) Hopefully that will help.

Try going up a size. We've also been happy with overnight diapers in both huggies and pampers.

For my DD, even with the overnights in larger sizes, we were still struggling with this. So, now I double diaper at night. Usually nothing goes through to the second diaper, it just seems to act as an extra band to hold everything in!

Move up a size. Go by accidents, not weight on bag (they are overly optimistic).

Pampers make an overnight type diaper. It's extra protection for trips or sleeping. My DD was the same way! I also got reusable training underwear that were cotton on the inside and rubber on the outside that I put over the diaper as another layer of protection. I'm always amazed at how much urine such a little person can produce. LOL

As others have said, we had the same issue at the same age. Started using the overnight diapers. They're more expensive but likely saved me a bundle in laundry! It didn't last forever, BTW. After about six months, I could put my son back in regular diapers overnight.

My son is the same way - I get huggies 'overnights'. He never goes to bed without one! Otherwise he'd be soaked as well. Plus one box has about 60 overnight diapers, so the box lasts around 2 months - good investment. Good luck!

I would go up a size and see if that helps prevent the leaks. I believe that diaper companies plan accordingly for the older children. I would not limit my child's fluid intake. I figure that you change your baby right before putting her to bed, making sure that the diaper isn't already wet before going to bed. BEst of luck.

You got some good ideas there already, but I thought I would suggest trying Vons brand diapers (from the grocery store Vons). I can't remember what name they use. We've had better luck with them than name brands for whatever reason, and they are WAY less expensive. We bought them originally because they don't use the gel stuff like the name brands that gives my baby a diaper rash.

My son was a super soaker too.
We used night times....and diaper doublers. They're kind of like maxi pads that line the diapers for more absorbancy and are sold in the diaper aisle. They really helped.

Best wishes.

We went through this with my son and switched to the "night time" ones and they worked well! If she's on the "cusp" of going up a size, you could try that too, but the night time diapers were more absorptive and we had much fewer leaks!

Switch to "LUVS" . My daughter would wake up wet w/Pampers and someone recommended LUVS and they work great! Good luck! :)

I'm guessing she's not wearing nighttime diapers? You don't specify. Diapers made specifically for nighttime should be adequate. They are sold alongside regular diapers. If that isn't enough, you can also buy diaper inserts that are kind of like sanitary pads but they are absorbent on both sides. Put in the crotch area inside a nighttime diaper. Good luck.

What I did was check them right before I went to bed, after they had been asleep 2 or 3 hours. If the diaper was wet, I'd just give them a quick change right there in the bed. Mine were pretty good sleepers once they finally fell asleep, so even if it did disturb them, they went back to sleep pretty easily.
I hadn't heard about diaper doublers back then, but they sound good!
I wouldn't change brands--Huggies were horrible for me. I liked Pampers best.
And as for size, if the diaper is too big, the wetness just runs out the gaps before it can absorb, so only move up a size if it will still fit right.
Good luck!

Try going up a size in diapers. I have twin boys and also perfered pampers after trying all sorts of brandsbut they just seemed to do the best job. My boys seemed to pee so much and when they would start waking up with wet bedding I started to go up a size. It wasn't because the diaperes were getting tight for them but the diapers just couldn't handle the volume anymore.

We had the same issue at about that age.

Look for diaper booster pads at Babies R us or online. They are inserts that you put inside the diaper. They are much cheaper than the night time diapers (about $4 for 30). They worked great when we had this problem.

My daughter did this frequently until I went a size up for night time and also added an insert I found at Babies/Toys R Us. They are only about $4 for 30 of them. I have rarely found her in the AM anymore with a diaper that has leaked. Hope this helps you.
ps...my daughter sleeps for at least 12 hours overnight and used to drink a full 8 oz. bottle before bed.

Huggies Overnights are awesome! I think Pampers now makes a night diaper. You may even try a larger size of diaper. My boys never really fit the diapers that they were suppost to for their weight.
My boys used Huggies Overnights for most of their pre-potty trained lives. I wouldn't worry about limiting liquids. She is to young to do that.

God bless!

What time does she go to sleep?
Consider getting her up for a diaper change
just before you go to sleep?
And then back to bed.
