Hi Ladies-My husband and I will be traveling to San Diego 7/30-8/5 for a wedding. This is the first time that we will have anytime away without children and our oldest is 6.5. Any suggestions from those who have traveled to the San Diego area on what type of grown up things to do. We are not really into the whole bar/club scene. We are staying in the Mission Bay area.

What can I do next?

Yes there is much to do and enjoy- I would recommend going to the Mission Bay chamber of commerece website there will probably be activites lined up in the community. Go to Carlsbad they have acres of beautiful flowers and there are outlet stores nearby. I would check out La Jolla, its def upscale- check out their website. If you tell me what types of food you like I can give you recommends. I am from Escondido which is in North County area. I would not go to Mexico- too much war and stuff going on. Only go with some one you trust. There are 2 zoos, the one in Escondido is just as good as the one in San Diego. Balboa Park is great, Sea World is also fun. The beaches are great- Del Mar, La Jolla Carlsbad. I say check out the diff cities websites and see what they have going on. Old Town is also a good pick, oh and you can go whale watching- take a small boat. So much to do. Oh and Fashion Valley Mall has really nice stores. Have Fun.

San Diego is an awesome place for a visit. Since it is on the west coast, you will have sunsets over the water which is my favorite. I haven't been there in 10 years, so hopefully this will still be useful. I love Coronado beach if you are just looking for a beach to hang out on. Also, La Jolla (just a little north) has nice beaches. This is an upscale town, so you can do some fun window shopping, maybe grab some dinner, and then hit the beach for sunset. San Diego also has good museums, and one day a week they are all free, so you might check into that. I also love the zoo. It is world class and worth checking out. I have been to the zoo every time I've been there, and I've never had kids with me. There's always Mexico if you have passports and want to do any shopping. There is the Old Town area which is interesting, and you could probably see in a couple of hours. Also, San Diego is only two hours south of LA, so it's feasible to go see some Hollywood things if that would interest you at all. If nothing else, you can go out for great seafood and not have to cut anyone's food!

My family and I went to SD a few months ago and we loved it. I would recommend just going to various beaches ( our favorite was Coronado Beach (near Hotel del Coronado). I would also recommend Whale Watching if you are comfortable being out on the water. We also took a guided tour of San Diego via Trolley (this can take the whole day if you get off at all the stops for sight seeing. Another tour is the Seal Tours, however we did not have time to take that one but that one brings you on land and water all in one machine. Other then that everything else we did was with the kids. We also loved Sea World but we all love Dolphins and Whales. It was real easy to get around because the hotel we stayed at drove us EVERYWHERE we wanted to go. Good luck and hope you guys have as much fun as we did!
Oh yeah we also went to Hollywood (2 hours drive) and saw some landmarks and took a tour of the stars homes. My kids and I both loved that as well. IT was more geared for adults however because the kids did not know alot of the stars that we saw so it did not really mean anything to them. But it was great fun also and alot of fun pictures we taken.

If you like theater, don't miss a performance of by the Old Globe Theater. They have a Shakespeare festival throughout the summer, performing outdoors. It's great! If Shakespeare's not your thing, there are a lot of other great theater companies in San Diego. The Lamb's Players is one I would recommend.

Also, there's an outdoor movie theater called Cinema Under the Stars, which is a lot of fun. Might as well enjoy the great weather, right?

Have fun! There's a chance my family and I will be in San Diego around the same time. Cool!
