This is our first year with a garden. I want to make homeade salsa. Does anyone have any simple but good recipes? I googled it, but was overwhelmed with all the choices. Thanks in advanced.

I like to use the salsa seasoning mix pouches that I have found in either the ethnic food aisle or in the produce area in grocery stores. You add tomatoes and vinegar, it provides the rest - onions, peppers, etc. It is so easy (perfect for my busy household) and tastes so good. Recipe is right on the back of the package.

I have an awesome salsa recipe. My aunt gave it to me for my work's salsa competition and it won 2nd prize! It is not your typical salsa but it is delicious. Great iwth Fritos.

Frito Dip

1 can black eyed peas
1 can pinto bean
1/2 can diced jalapeno peppers
1/2 red pepper,diced
1/2 green pepper, diced
1 Sm chopped onion
1 cup chopped celery

sauce:
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup oil

Boil sauce to dissolve sugar, cool, pour over veggies,
make a day ahead. Makes 8 cups

Salsa is so easy. You can really put in whatever you like. Here's how I make it.

couple tomatoes, diced
jalapeno, diced. Include the seeds if you like more heat
1/2 a red onion, diced
can of black beans, drained and rinsed
can of corn kernals, drained
chopped fresh cilantro
lime juice

Mix everything together. Everything is just to taste, there's no perfect combination of ingredients. This is better if it sits in the fridge for a couple hours before serving.

I've been on a salsa making kick lately!! This is what i do:

5 romona tomatos
1/2 lg onion
1 green peper
(Sometimes i'll do 1/2 green & 1/2 a yellow pepper for color)
1 jalapeno
2 limes
cilontro--watch it on this. Love it but have added too much in the past.
Pampered chef's salsa spice (smaill handfull)

I don't have proper measurements, I just kind of wing it.
1/2 white onion
garlic clove
jalepeno pepper (fresh or jarred) start small you can always add more.
juice from 1/2 lime
salt and pepper.
Mix in food processor until desired size.
cut tomatoes in half and squeeze out some juice before adding to the mix. Pulse until desired consistency.
Add fresh cilantro to small serving dishes of salsa as it will turn color and taste funny after awhile.
The first set of ingredients is a great start to guacamole too. After you process, put it into a bowl with cubed/mashed avacodo and diced tomato.
I wish i could be more specific with measurements but its all to personal preference (heat, s&p)
I hope you like it.

We are also in our first year of gardening and have tomatoes and jalapenos coming out of our ears! this is a very simple recipe and takes about 10 min. Yummy and fresh!

3 large tomatoes, seeded and chopped(3 cups)
1 small green bell pepper, chopped (1/2 cup)
8 medium green onions, sliced (1/2 cup)
3 cloves garlic, finely chopped or 1 1/2 tsp minced
2 tblsp chopped fresh cilantro
1 tblsp finely chopped seeded jalepeno chilies
2 to 3 tblsp lime juice
1/2 tsp salt

Mix all ingredients in glass or plastic bowl. Cover and refrigerate at least 1 hour to blend flavors but no longer than one week.

This one is so easy; I just love it.

3 Roma tomatoes
1/2 of a red onion
1 lime
cilantro (either dry or live)
sea salt

Make sure the insides/seeds are squeezed out of the tomatoes, throw everything into a food processor/chopper, and after everything's pureed--or whatever thickness you prefer--take the lime, peel it, and then, using your hand, squeeze the lime juice into the mix and either repuree or just stir by hand.

Yummy!

6-8 roma tomatoes
1 small-med sweet onion
jalepeno peppers (seeds in for more spice)
garlic
fresh cilantro
salt (I like to use sea salt)
cumin
lime (or lemon) juice

We chop everything by hand instead of using the food processor because we like bigger chunks. Sorry I don't have specific amounts. Like other posters have said, it's really up to you. I usually taste test as I go along, and add more of whatever it needs. Too spicy-add more tomatoes and fresh lime juice. Too bland-add cilantro or jalepeno. Go easy on the cumin to start-it can be overdone pretty easily-maybe a little under a teaspoon??? I just dump it in and never measure. I always get rave reviews when I take salsa anywhere, and get requests to bring it. Good luck with your garden!
