I'm looking for a hair salon that specializes in curly hair, or at least has a stylist who knows how to cut really curly hair. Any reccomendations would be greatly appreciated.

So What Happened?

Thanks to everyone who suggested curly hair salons. I ended up going to the Carriage House Salon (mostly out of convenience) in Cambridge and Carrie did a fantanstic job. They use a very similar method to Ouidad, which is the salon that I had used until now.

I have straight hair but my 2 year old daughter has my mom's out of control curls. I take her to Maria's Salon in Chelmsford, which is a bit out of your way -- but we drive up from the south shore so it's an hour each way for us! They specialize in what's called the "Ouidad" system of haircutting -- pronounced "wee-dad". I have no idea how that is different from however else people cut curly hair, but my mom goes to a Ouidad specialist in Florida and says that she actually likes her hair for the first time in 62 years! (I would never tell mom this but I've NEVER liked her hair until she started having it cut at a Ouidad salon). It's fairly pricy but you only have to go every few months rather than every few weeks so it balances out. Their products are AMAZING, too! Check out ouidad.com or call Maria's at ###-###-####.

hi R., i have been going to the same stylist for about 10 years now, following him from salon to salon because he does such a great job. he is now at salon fontana which is located in the sports club la downtown by the ritz, behind the loews on the common. maybe not so convenient (there is parking for i think about $5) and very pricy (i got grandfather'ed in so pay less but i think he currently charges $120). if this doesn't deter you, his name is james peltier. he was mentioned in best of boston a long time ago for curly hair cutter and it would take a lot for me to go to anyone else. tell him i sent you if you go. good luck! Hi R.,

I too have curly hair and have always had a hard time finding a good stylist/salon. I found Dana at M salon in Porter Sq. and have been really happy with him for the past couple of years. Good luck!

I have curly/wavy/unruly hair and I found a great place in Harvard Square called the Carriage House Salon. They specialize in curly hair and even have a really nice product they sell called Curlisto, which has done wonders for my hair. I can't remember the name of the stylist I went to, but I'm assuming they're all good. I found them b/c they won Best of Boston for curly hair care. They have a website you might want to check out.

Hi R.,

I have curly hair myself and know the trials and tribulations of finding someone who can truely cut curly hair. When I lived in Boston, I had my hair done at Fresh Hair Salon on Center Street in Jamaica Plain. The best stylist is the owner, Joy who has curly hair herself :)

I also have had my hair cut in Cambridge at M salon on Mass Ave by the stylist, Dana. I found them through the naturallycurly.com website. They have a website:
www.msaloncambridge.com. I did get a great cut.

I now live in Salem so I get my hair done at Brown's of Beverly,a salon that specializes in curly hair.

Good Luck

Blondie Salon and Spa in Waltham. Check out their website: www.blondiesalonandspa.com. They are the BEST!!! They also offer 25% your first appointment there too. Ask for either Ryan or Kim. They are great with curly hair. They have the best in products for curly hair as well. And since you are pregnant, they have a licensed Doula as their massage therapist.
