Dear Mamas,

Have any of you used Safemart Security or Front Point Security systems? I got a quote from ADT and they wanted crazy money for the security system. Any info - good or bad would be helpful! Thanks! C.

What can I do next?

I would go local but I am partial to local security systems since my cousins own a security company.

The thing is those that charge little upfront put in crappy equipment and then turn around and charge two to three times as much for the monitoring as the companies that charge the equipment cost upfront. So you pay 100 for the equipment and an extra 50 a month paying for the free equipment.

What I am saying is don't just look at the install costs, also look at monitoring costs and figure out what you are actually paying for.

We are looking at Front Point (hubby is a LEO) also I know of too many issues with ADT and will NEVER use them

here is a small sampling of complaints. http://www.consumeraffairs.com/homeowners/adt.htm

I also know first hand that they did not setup a friend's system correctly and it cost them their pets and home

I had a very bad experience with ADT. The vendor was an a#@hole. They installed our system and they said it would contact us through the speaker, and guess what, it didn't work. It took over 2 minutes for them to call us on our phone when we set the alarm off to test it a month later. In my city, they will not come out unless the security company tries to contact you and can hear something through the speaker system. Needless to say, I Always recommend any system but ADT. BTW They installed our system for free.

C.:

What is the cost AFTER the system is installed? ADT has a great reputation.

Check with your homeowners insurance. They might have a discounted program with any of these or a local one as well.

See if the system includes things you don't need and want - motion detectors, etc.

You need to go with what will help make you feel safe and keep your family feeling safe. Reputation and good, quality systems are nice to have...

I haven't used those that you mentioned but I have used Melaleuca Security for 3 years now and just recently upgraded. They are about $15 dollars less a month than what I was quoted 5-6 years ago from other providers.

Equipment was also very reasonable.
