Safe Bug Repellent for 11 Mth Old

My son is 11 months old. Recently on our evening walk, I noticed he had at least five mosquito bites in the short time we were outside. Can anyone recommend a safe bug repellent? Someone told me about a device they attached to the stroller designed to repell bugs, but didn't tell me the name of it or if it actually works.

What can I do next?

I use a combination of lavendar lotion and skin so soft. I use the lavender lotion after baths and also put skin so soft in their baths so it is always on them. When I know we will be outside and mosquitos are there, I spray on the skin so soft. My son seems to really attract mosquitos and this keeps them away and keeps his skin from being dry also.

Avon has a skin so soft bug repellant that is Deet free. It works good. You can order online at avon.com.
We also use Bull Frog Insect spray, it is Deet Free also. You can find this at Target or Walmart. Look where the sun lotions are kept. It is placed with these products since it also has sunblock in it.

I think I read somewhere that if you spray Listerine around it will keep mosquitos away. Also a dryer sheet tucked somewhere near. The health food store has some excellent all natural bug repellents.

Best of luck to you.

The ones listed below in other responses are great. Look online for "ALL Natural" Bug Control. It needs to be chemical free for all of us, especially little ones.

Hi K.,

Here are the two my favorite things out of 100 I have used;

1. Burt's Bees spray (All natural) herbal insect repellent safe and efective.
2. Burt's Bee Outdoor bug bite relief (for bug bites if you happen to miss a beat)

I carry both items in my diaper bag at all times, it's a must in FL. Please note, blood type "0+" attracts mosquitos the most. All Burt's Bee products are 100% natural www.burtsbees.com

Avon Skin So Soft is the BEST. And it doesn't stink like it did when we were kids! The other quick, 'home' remedy we use is scented dryer sheets. They, for whatever reason, repel mosquitos. I just stick one in the belt loop of the kids' pockets or out of a pocket when they are playing outside. They work great... especially for my 3-year old who is a mosquito's best friend! Good luck.

Hi K.,
I use Burt's Bee's or Bye Bye Bugs bug repellant. Its all natural and uses oils like Eucaliptus instead of other chemicals. Its works pretty well but my girls(1yr and 4 yrs) are bug magnets. You can get Burt's Bees at any health food store. I have also heard that fabric softener sheets in the pockets of your clothes can help. I have never had much succes but you may. Skin so Soft by Avon is one more I can think that others have told my about but I have not tried. Hope this helps.

Hi,
I totally forgot about Avon skin so soft until I read your responses, but I remember that from years ago. Also, the product line of California Baby has an abundance of safe skin products, including bug replellent. You can find it health food stores, as well as Publix have some of their products too. You can always order products online that are not in stores at californiababy.com. I'm all about natural and organic with no chemicals or synthetic products, etc.

Hi K.; I had an e-mail from a friend not long ago saying that if you put a new dryer sheet in a pocket it will keep the mosquito's away and you can still use the sheet in your dryer later if you wish. I have not tried it yet but I plan to. She said it really works. Won't hurt to try and it would be safe for your son. S.

try Burt's Bee's... they make all kinds of natural things, ie: insect repellent, poison ivy soap, sun block lip balm, re-q ointment (for scraches, burns, stings, etc). you can find most products at walgreens, cvs, maybe target? good luck.

just google Avon. once there you can find a rep in hte area that can help you.

I'm sure there are other things out there this is just what I used 6 years ago on my babies.

K.,

I bought Quit Bugging Me bug repellant from the Health Food Store, by Jason. Deet & PABA free, lasts up to 3 hrs. I bought it for my daughter when she was 9 mo old. I haven't used it yet. All plant oil.

The original Skin So Soft (must the the original wood land scent) works. I don't use it so much because, I don't have an Avon Rep & don't go to the mall. My sister is also allgeric to it, when we were kids she would get all congested. But then my sister is the only one I know who is allergic to aloe!!
