"Safe" Bed Rail?

Okay mamas- here is my question. I've recently converted my daughters crib into a day bed and she has done well but she falls out quite a bit. I have a big body pillow on the floor so she doesn't get hurt but it startles her and then we have to get her back to sleep. I've heard mixed reviews on bed rails- some things I've read say the risk of sufercation between the bed and rail is a greater risk than the fall out of bed. All the rails I've looked at are mesh but I wonder if the risk is still there? Anyone have thoughts on this? Also advice on the best bed rail to get if I decide to go the route would be good.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

The safest kind is the one that clamps down on top of the mattress and has mesh. Safety First makes one like this. I think if you google this, you'll find the one. It's called Secure Lock or Snug Fit. Good luck!

When I took my daughter out of her crib she went right into the wooden white toddler bed with the two small rails one on each side.... when she felt ready for a twin I bought one of those mesh rails and absolutely loved it. she never had any troubles with it and she would push right up against it at times and it held tight..... - does your crib not come with a rail for conversion? you might want to check the manufacturers website to see if they make one -

good luck!

Both of my girls have used the mesh type of bed rails with no problems. You can fold the rail down when the child's not in bed and when you fold it back up, there's a definite click so you know it's back in place. I can't remember what brand we used, but I got them at Walmart. I feel very comfortable with them and will use them on my third child when it's his turn.

i was wondering the same as well actually. my aunt swears by here safety 1st bed rail (one of the mesh kinds) it fits snug against the mat so there is a less likely chance of suffocation(which the higher risk of is usually due to being tangled upa s well and fluffy pillows) . and you can move it to other beds too. we use it when i have our son on our bed playing while i fold laundry. works like a charm, he can shove his face against and doesn't get pinned or lose his air space. hope this helps
