Hey all! My daughter has had runny liquid stools for almost two weeks off and on now. It seems like it gets worse on the weekends. Any suggestions. I'm at the end of my rope and can't take any more time off from work. She was vomiting last weekend...was good for two days and started with the liquid stools again. HELP! Her poor bottom is raw!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

So what happened, right? My daugher ended up being allergic to her chewable vitamin. We took it away from her and the loose stools went away. Thanks for all your suggests. I lobe the BRAT diet.

Not to sound harsh or anything but take her to the doctor, she shouldn't have runny poop for that long!

Have you tried the BRAT diet? Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Toast. If it continues, especially if she starts vomitting again, take her in, you don't want her to get dehydrated.

Try to stay away from diary. If she won't take pedialite and/or is demanding milk, give her lactose free milk or soy milk.

Make sure you're watching her diet closely I had something similar happen and found out 1 of 2 things. Juice it has to be watered down. The juice was to much for her 1/2 juice 1/2 water, to a 1/3 juice to tough on her system. Another found out strawberries she was allergic to for awhile gave her diahrea. Every time she ate certain fruits it came right out and also raw butt. Start limiting and noticing her diet. Along with her diahrea make sure she is on Gatorade to ensure she has electrolytes in her system. Otherwise take her to a doctor maybe she has a bacterial bug, she could of ate something may need to bring in a stool sample. Good Luck

Have you maybe considered she might be lactose intolerant? Have you taken her off milk products? Try that, if things get better you can try to reinterduce milk products after three months.

I had the same problem with my daughter, though she didn't throw up. I took her to the dr and they did a stool culture and nothing was wrong, yet the runny stools wouldn't stop. So I sprinkled a little probiotics into her food/milk and it cleared up in 1 day. Sometimes their little systems get really out of whack especially after a virus. I got the probiotics at my local co-op. I tried yogurt first but that didn't seem to work for her. Good luck!

you should really go to the doctor... however, if she is on solids, (you didnt say how old she is) try some bananas, bread... noodles... foods that could maybe make her stool thicker. dont feel the need to restrict her any foods, you dont want constipation.

anyway, i hope that you see the doctor cuz depending on age, a stomach bug could need some medicine

if you have been to a swimming pool this summer you might want to take her to the doctor to see if she has cryptosporidium(sp?) crypto for short. our local pool had a person who was diagnosed with this and was at the pool unfortunatley on a busy weekend. several people were then diagnosed with crypto...one of the symptoms is diarrhea for up to four weeks.

You don't mention how old your daughter is. If she is an infant, does she cry more, eat less or any other sign? If she is older, what are her other symptons? Could she be teething? Is the stools runny and sandy looking? Dehydration is a problem with runny stools so you should take her in if it continues. If she is teething and the on and off for 2 weeks wouldn't be unusal if she is working on getting eye teeth or molars in, but if it is sandy like, it could be a parasite.

You may have already seen a medical doctor to test for intestinal parasites or other bugs. Altenative therapies include naturopaths, now respected as medical doctors in MN (and in some other states). High quality probiotics will support intestinal health once bugs are cleared out.

You could try some Herbal Aloe. It supports digestive health with organic nutrients and enzymes. My son had a stomach ache and felt like he wanted to vomit for 2 days, along with loose stools. I finally gave him the liquid aloe and 20 minutes later he felt fine and wanted to eat. I was skeptical at first, but then later that evening I felt the same way (wanted to vomit, and felt like my insides were burning). I took the aloe and it went away. I guess it's also great for heartburn and acid reflux, but it basically coats the intestines so it couldn't hurt if nothing else has worked. You can call me if you want to order some. It's relatively cheap. ###-###-####

Take her to a Doctor! This has gone on for too long.

It could be a bacterial infection or a parasite in her intestinal tract and these will not go away without medical treatment.

Up until this started was she at all constipated? It could be a minor blockage and the loose stool is all that can get around it in the colon. Gross, I know, but that's what happened to my daughter! Probiotics have since then helped us stay regular with her. You can also try the BRAT diet: bananas, rice, apples, toast (no butter) to stop her up a bit. I wouldn't be too worried if she's not running a fever. Good luck!

I would say to take her to the doctor. That is too long to have runny stools and vomiting on and off. Is she maintaining her wait or is she loosing? Make sure she has planty of liquids and use A&D ointment of her bottom.

Lacto Bacilus (sp?). Works like a charm. Basically a souped-up version of yogurt. You didn't say how old your daughter is but as long as she is old enough for baby food, you can get this stuff (ask the pharmacist since I think it is kept refridgerated) and mix it in with yogurt.

Sounds like the rotovirus is it super duper stinky like something died?

Stay away from juice, milk for awhile. Give her pedialyte or water if possible til it clears up.

Just wanted to add, I know 5 people, including my own toddler followed by my fiance, who have just come through a two-week stomach virus. They're all fine now, and it sure confused me while they were sick because it seems too long for a stomach bug, but that's what it was.

If nothing else pans out, that might be it. I don't know what virus it is, because I know both kids and adults who've gotten it. I sort of thought adults don't get Rotavirus, but I could be wrong.

Anyway, yeah. BRAT diet, hydrate, probiotics at a bare minimum.
