Royal Wedding and Shower Ideas?

I met a woman today while working out, we chatted for at least an hour while sweating it out. She told me her son is getting married on Oct 6th. His name is William and the bride to be is Kate. They want to plan a royal wedding. She was asking if I had any ideas for shower ideas and shower gifts and wedding gift. Also if there are any Mpls / St. Paul moms out there, do you have any reccomendations for a place to have it? She said she has a friend that lives in one of the mansions in the historic Summit neighborhood but her dining room table only seats 10. She wants something that will fit the royalty theme they have going. We exchanged phone numbers and will probably be meeting up soon. I told her I would check here to see if any of you have ideas.

What can I do next?

I agree with Jo W. A horse drawn carriage is pretty unique and old fashioned.

But I am not sure I would want a "royal wedding" themed wedding... I mean, William and Kate are recent news and constantly making the news and probably will be for years, but, is that really what they will want their wedding memories to include? I don't think I would want to look back 15 years down the road (that's where we are in OUR marriage right now--at 15 years) and say: "Awwww..... look honey! We copied Prince William and his bride Kate! Isn't that so cool?" It just doesn't work for me. But hey, to each his own, right?

I think the coolest thing would be a horse drawn carriage instead of a limo. Now that is something you don't see everyday!

I think it is pretty silly because the day should be about them not the Royals. Yes, it is cute the names are alike but really??

As for going with the theme... weird hats, tea, and horse drawn carriage.

We actually see a lot of horse drawn carriages here in our area for weddings.

To each his own.

Well the royals all wear those wacky hats. Maybe have guest wear a snazzy hat for the shower. I love the horse drawn carriage idea.

I would look more at the "Pomp and Circumstance" of a royal wedding vs mimicking the Royal Couple's nuptuals. I would look into what made it such an event - was it the cathedral? Was it the fashion? Was it the food, music, guests etc. The bride and groom need to find out what it is about their wedding that they loved and find out how to bring that to their own wedding.

Find out if this can be a venue - many places like this will do weddings - here is the castle.
Food - they probably have just the ticket when it comes to caterers that they work with
I suggest candles vs flowers and a choir that can do traditional music and that can "mix it up" Glee style for entertainment.
Cocktails - these can be a play on names Martini - The Middletini, Gentlemen's Jack becomes Prince's Jack, Pippa Tini (pomtini) just for examples on playing with names.
I would go to Ross and accessory stores and make Facinators to have for the women vs expecting them to bring their own - cheap and easy tutorials on You Tube.
I suggest tux with tails for him unless he is military and for her a classic wedding gown.
Here is a site about Royal Wedding Traditions - hopefully more inspiration there
