Roselle Mom Needs $200/Week or Less Childcare

I have found myself in quite a bind....with gas prices and food prices, traditional daycare is not affordable. I don't want to start charging my electric bill just to pay for child care. It's crazy! My daughter wsa born March 13th. I'm looking for 4 days per week (Tues thru Fri) from about 8:15/8:30am until 5:30pm beginning in September. Anything over $200 will put me under. And with the housing market, I can't even sell my townhome and move in with my parents. And at almost 33 years og age and married, that's not something I really want to do anyways. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Hi L.!
I feel your pain, we are in the same boat. I know there is one home day care on the intersection of Roselle rd and Nerge rd. I cannot think of the name right now, but I will ask my husband later on today, he should remember. When I talked to the owner last fall she was charging $170 (meals included) for 5 days a week 7am-6pm. We interviewed her and LOVED her. Gorgeous daycare, she makes home made food. But your baby is probably on milk only, right? She is Licensed with the State of Illinois. We had my son enrolled there last fall and then my husband lost his job so he stayed home with him for 5 months.
I have another suggestion, it might sound silly. Go to local Polish Deli Stores (there is one on Roselle and Wise) they have boards with job postings and many polish women post ads looking to watch someones child. They usually don't charge that much and they are typically great with kids. You can always do a backround check.
If you are looking for a daycare center there is Jennifer's Daycare in Schaumburg on Wise rd east of Irving Park. its $200 for 5 days a week. I've heard good things about them.
I hope this helps! I will let you know if I find the name and phone number for the home daycare in Roselle.
Good Luck!!!
M.

AFter being in the nanny placement business for over 15 years I warn you not to follow advice to go the deli and find a polish lady. First of all, if they are good, they are demanding top dollar. If they can't get a job because they are not good caregivers, they will place their phone numbers on boards mentioned. They assume you will not check them out. I have worked on many state committees regarding childcare and if you must place your child in daycare you need to scrutinize the place and people you are leaving her with. I do not say this lightly. I understand that with your finances you cannot find an agency but I caution you because I have seen so many "nannies from hell". They are from all countries, including USA. They may interview well but you don't know if they have a history of mental illiness or crime. Under your circumstances, is there a way that you and your husband can split shifts? Are your parents close by and can they help care for your child? Most grandmothers would love the opportunity to care for infant grandchildren. Be creative but don't gamble with who will be caring for your child. She is too important. If you have to charge your electric bill for awhile, don't worry about it...your daughter is more important. You are investing in her future. Oh, the woman who referred you to in-home daycare where M. offered home cooked meals: her licensing does not include kitchen facilities or quality of food. She could be doing that to save on her costs but the food may not be the best for the children. Enjoy your daughter! They grow so fast!

I have a good friend who is state licensed, has been doing daycare for 20+ years now and I don't think she charges outrageous prices. She always seems willing to work with people. She lives in Bartlett. I don't know where you are, but if you'd like, I can give you her number. Send me a message if you want it.

I would check into licensed family daycare it is cheaper than centers. I have been doing family daycare for over 18 years and love it. I love the idea that the children are in a home setting. I worked in a center for 5 years before starting a family daycare when my daughter was born. I wanted to be home with my children and to be able to give other children that "special" home feeling. I don't think I am close enough to you but I am in Arlington Heights right off of 53 and Northwest Highway. Best of Luck.
