Hi! My kids (9 & 7) have outgrown their roller skates. They can skate pretty good with roller skates but i'm wondering if I should go with roller blades now. Are they easier than roller skates? Harder? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Maybe you should take them to a roller rink where they can try out the inline skates before you invest in them? I just took my daughter to Roller World in Saugus yesterday, they had both available to rent.

Roller skates are harder to do a lot of moves with but easier to stop. Inline skates are easier to do tricks and moves with but harder to stop. Once they are able to control skates they should have the ability to stop an inline and will have more fun with them. They also do better on different types of surfaces because the width of the roller is more narrow and there is only one line of them.

People with knee issues have a harder time with inline skates but that shouldn't be an issue with young kids. :)

My kids are also 7 and 9...all 3 of us would tell you roller blades are easier. I think it's because the wheels extend beyond the front and back of your foot making you a bit easier to balance. I don't think I've seen anyone on roller skates (outside of a roller-rink) in YEARS. People just get roller blades now. I think that's the way to go.

A lot has to do with what you are used to. They are slightly different. I can do both but like roller skates better. I can also Ice skate. One thing is I think roller blades are easier to slow down and stop in but it could just be I never learned properly. Seems blades are more popular though so I'd vote for blades.

Roller blades definitely!!! I personally think they are easier. My son is 7 and has been flying around on roller blades since he was 5.

My grandchildren, at that age, preferred roller blades. I don't know why.

Roller blades are faster, more fun and (in my opinion )easier. I roller blade at least 2 times a week and my daughter has had both as well, but prefers the roller blades also..

Plus when you buy them for kids they are usually adjustable to up to 4 different sizes.
...........i would never go back to roller skates.

At their age just go for the roller blades. My kids used them and I stuck with the roller skates. We would go out skating through the city and the parks and they'd tell me the roller blades were easier.
