Hi Moms -

Do any of you have information on a Roku box? Can you watch "current" shows? Maybe not as they play live on CBS/NBC, etc, but within a few days?

Can you watch Disney or Nick? ESPN?

Can't see much on their web site if you have to pay extra for certain channels. I already have a Netflix account, but I haven't searched their for current shows.

Thanks

We have it.. we like it. You can get some of the series.. but not all the channels.. Channel 2 CBS for us which is where the bulk of my shows are just does not have them avialble.

What I like is they do have episods for the kids shows (which is what we motstly watch). So it is on demand Curiouse George, Elmo and a ton of other shows.

We have Roku service through our TV.. We had the box originally.

Not all shows are available even on the CBS channel for example.. , interesting since, I get a lot of them through my ipad..

Here is a link so you can put in the channels and see what comes up.

For the Disney and the ESPN, I think you would have to pay for those stations.. but it is possible some of their shows are sometimes carried on other channels.

Jessica S, you can use your iPhone (and maybe other smart phones?) for the remote..or order one from amazon?
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_3_11?url=search-al...

or email or do a live chat with the Roku website?...I'm sure you can order one from them???..or they can direct you where to find replacement?..

I have called Roku with several issues(usually not theirs)...they are SUPER HELPFUL...even if my problem was with the channel itself...

KF---We have 1 Roku box, but have bought them for gifts for other ppl...there are enough free channels with variety that you can never watch it all...and are always adding more..cable and pay per view is not necessary...unless you just want it?

purchase one time(less than $100 for the most expensive HD only set) and have forever tv of some kind without a monthly fee..plus you can do the pay per view thing or individual channels if you prefer?...but we find so much free stuff(along with netflix) there is no need to spend a lot of $..plus if you do amazon prime, you have access to their streaming movie list?

We have a Roku that we primarily used for Netflix in the kids playroom. I was not aware you could watch any current shows with it. Unfortunately someone lost the remote and there are no buttons on the box itself, so it is completely useless now without the remote. I've looked to see if I could purchase a new remote only, and have not found it to be available.

I have a Roku. I use it to stream Hulu+, Amazon prime and Netflix. Whatever is current on those channels I can watch. But so far the "typical" TV and cable channels are not all available through the Roku, and those that are have limited options. Some of them you have to pay either a monthly fee for, or a rental fee per use. If you go to Roku.com and go to the very bottom of the screen and click on "see all channels" it will bring up a very long list and you can browse around and get descriptions and see if there is enough for you to justify the cost. If you choose to buy one, you add only the channels you want so you don't have to navigate through a bunch of junk you'll never use. I personally think it was worth every penny I paid for it and I have the original Roku 1. The newer versions are even better and when my daughter goes off to college and take the Wii that we stream through on the family TV, I will most definitely replace it with a Roku.

It depends on what you are using to stream through the Roku, we just use Amazon Prime, so we have what is available on Amazon. All PBS shows are free, Nick and Disney are pay per episode. If you use Netlix, you will have access to whatever Netflix offers, just like what you have on your computer. I love ours, since my son only watches a few shows that are on PBS it makes it super easy.

No, not current episodes. Current shows, but usually the previous season. It takes a year or so to make it so the set top boxes.

I'm curious about them, too. My concern is that if we replace the bad DVD player with something, Roku wouldn't also play DVDs while a wifi enabled BluRay player would. So is it better to have a non-wifi player + Roku or the wifi and no Roku? Hrm....My friend has been very happy with her Roku 2 and they pay only $21 per month for TV.
