The song "Whatcha Want" was my anthem in high school. My friends and I used to bump it so loud from my 89 Monte Carlo. It's sad to know there won't be another album. Are you a fan?

Side question: what was your anthem in high school if you had one?

What can I do next?

Amanda C, I can't believe I am hearing the news this way!!! I didn't know! (like there would be any other way to hear the news... you know how sometimes you forget that you have no ACTUAL connection to athlete/musician/author/etc that you admire?)

That music was the soundtrack of my grade school through college years. So many distinct memories to the individual songs! Saw them at the Forum in LA, late 90's, they were already on the older side but could still BRING it like no other.

"... and now I've got to pass the mic to Yaaauch..." :(

I remember sitting on my friend's driveway. Her parents were out of town and we had a rager going on. All of a sudden, Fight for Your Right to Party, came on for the first time. Everyone went craaaaazy! Yep, it was the 80s. RIP, MCA, you rocked our suburban teenage world.

This makes me sad.... I used to listen to the BB in Junior high and watch Dance Party USA. Whenever I hear a Beatstie Boys song, it instantly makes me 14 again. Happy and carefree. My prayers go out to his family. I know how hard it is to lose someone to Cancer.
Poohey!

When I saw that he passed I actually gasped out loud. My son ran over to see what I was looking on on the laptop.

They have been a part of my life for soooo long now I don't remember NOT loving them. I listen to them EVERYDAY when I workout. No matter how many times I've listen to them they ALWAYS make me push harder and make me smile at the same time. I can't say that about ANY current "musicians."

RIP MCA. You will be missed.

I was never a HUGE Beastie Boys Fan........ Although I have to say I was never afraid to bump Brass Monkey.

Hum Anthem for school.............Everclear.....Santa Monica and then the rest of their stuff as it came out.

Also Weezer's Pinkerton Album. I am pretty sure that got me through some of the roughest parts of Teen hood.

The things that come in three's theory is moving rapidly this year...... Seems we are loosing lots of talented people all over the board....

Love, love, love the Beastie Boys. I was in junior high when "Fight for Your Right to Party" came out. It was their first huge hit and went hand in hand with the Run DMC/Aerosmith remake of "Walk This Way" to put rap and hip hop in the mainstream. It was cool to introduce my 18 year old to their music. He loves them, now, too.

I was so sad to see that he had passed away.

My highschool anthem....that's so tough. I went to public school for the first time in my junior year and I remember pulling up in the parking lot that first day and they were playing music on the speaker system outside. The song playing was Def Leopard's "Pour Some Sugar On Me." The staff must have had no idea what the words were. But I think the one that I listened to and loved the most was "Tainted Love" by Soft Cell.

It's fun to watch my kids discover the music that we used to love. My husband made a Beastie CD for the car last month and the kids are hooked on No Sleep till Brooklyn, Fight for your right, and Brass Monkey. It's maybe not appropriate :) but it's hliarious when my 5 and 6 yr old turn thier hats side ways and do the B-Boy stance.
Yes, a family of fans.

I would have to say anything off of "check your head" would be my anthem in high school. But I agree "Whatcha Want" is probably my fave. Huge Beastie fan. Our station here usually plays "90s and Noon" and today it was ALL Beasties!

I'm so glad that I got to see them in concert 15 years ago... every time they've come around I had other activities going on.
