My 7 month old daughter has ringworm on the back of her legs near her diaper area...poor thing! In the past if any of my kids had it, I would just spray the spot with TINACTIN and within a couple weeks it would be gone, but with a baby i am worried if that would be the best thing. I have looked online and home remedy is usually what works, like some form of anti-fungal cream, etc. Any Ideas??

What can I do next?

I just had a similar problem with my 6 month old daughter. She and I both had some "funny" spots, that looked exactly the same. I thought they might be ringworm. We went to the doctor. She was certain it wasn't ring worm, but didn't have any idea what it was. She wasn't much help. I was pretty certain it was some sort of fungus or bacteria. I decided to try Neosporen on mine to see if it made any difference. Mine started to clear up within a few days. I went ahead and started my daughter on it as well, and after 5 days of treating it, it is almost gone. The only thing I tried to be careful of was my daughter getting the cream on her hands (since they are her favorite chew toy : ) If she did get it on them while I was changing her diaper, I would just wipe them off with a diaper wipe. I'm not exactly sure what "IT" was, but the Neosporen worked like a champ. You might give that a try.

I think you would treat it the same as a yeasty diaper rash, which my kids have had in the past. The pharmacist recommended that I use the drug name clotrimazole - it can be used for "ring worm", yeast infection or athlete's foot. Found with the athlete's foot creams at the drugstore. When my 3 yr old son had a little athlete's foot they also recommended this - not tinactin, which we had in our medicine cabinet already. I think it must be gentler or not have additives that the others might have. I don't really know, actually, but that's what we used...

You could ask the pharmacist if this medicine woud be appropriate at your daugher's age.

Have you read anything about Tea Tree Oil or Mellalueca? It is a natural antifungal, and my mom used it on me as a baby. It is very smelly and potent! You may want to put a few drops in baby's bath water, or dilute it in a carrier oil such as avocado, or grapeseed oil.

Hi A.,

I had what multiple dr's said repeatedly was ringworm that stayed around even after a few weeks, then months, of the anti-fungals, and even started to spread to more noticable areas, like my neck. The funny thing was that it did not spread to anyone else like ringworm usually does. My spouse did not get it, my roommates in the military did not get it, etc.

I found out from a dermatologist that what I really had was a condition known as Pitoriasis (sp?). This condition usually starts as a ringworm type spot on the abdomenal region and then spreads. Mine did just that, spreading to my back, legs, chest and neck. The treatment was to do absolutely nothing! Use the most mild soap possible and avoid lotions, creams, anti-fungals, neosporin, everything. Let the area dry out and it will go away completely in a couple weeks. You might check out some more info on it online, and if your sons condition doesn't improve, give this remedy a shot.

Hope this helps and that it clears up soon!!!
