Reviews or Your Suggestions on Labeling Your Children's Clothes

I have been using mabels labels for years now and love them! I ordered several different types and they are still adhered like the day I put them on (and my oldest is now 5 1/2). Even the tag labels that go thru the laundry and in the shoes, and the cup/dish labels that we now use for my youngest. We did the last name for the clothing labels, and first name for cups, etc that weren't likely to make it to child #2. The nice thing about the labels is you can remove them when you're ready to donte the clothing or put it in a garage sale... We have also used the Inch Bug bands for sippy cups and they work great! They are resuable forever so once he's beyond the sippy cup, they'll go on a thermos, water bottle, etc...

I have always used the Rub-a-dub Sharpie laundry markers (much easier than dealing with a label) but the regular Sharpies seem to work well too.

I've used Mabels Labels and really liked them and had no issues at all with the labels. On top of that, the company is a woman run business, and they are beyond amazing to work with!

Hi! I have used the Stuck on You iron on labels & they work great. They stay on and are simple to put on. Plus, you can pull them off if you end up needing to hand down the clothes to another child. We used a marker with our first and a lot of our youngests clothes now have our oldests initials on them. This is why I started using the stuck on you site :)

That's what my mom did for us too! Use a permanent sharpie marker and write on the tag so it doesn't bleed through.

I always used a Sharpie marker. It doesn't wash out and it can't fall off.

Good morning Tyra. I'm not sure if you are up to this but as a teacher at a daycare, I can tell you that the easiest thing to do is use a sharpie. It's quick, easy, inexpensive and the writing won't go anywhere. Hope this helps and have a great day.

I just write our last name on the labels with a permanent marker... Avoid writing over the size... :-)
Its something that your gonna be doing for many years into Elementary school also so it will get quite costly putting individual names on things... Try to stick with just last name...Unless you want to have to relable EVERY outfit that your younger son will get handed down from older brother.

tyra; you can simply use a permanent marker, but dont put it on the outside, when kids have their names on the outside of things, a stranger can see their name and say hey there.... so and so.... and use their name and preten they know them, and it may not go well with them, teach them stranger danger, and i would use a permanent marker inside their bookbag, and inside their stuff, or a smiley face or a symbol your child will recognize, their name on stuff only helps them to identify their stuff from the other kid's stuff, in case they both have the same kind, you can even buy a little charm of some sort to hang off it, like their boots, or a back pack, so they know its theirs, even in their clothes you can use a permanent marker inside the colar, where the material doubles in the neck area, so it dont bleed through to the outside, it is washable and ironable, have fun and enjoy life, D. s

I don't go that far... I either use a sharpie (narrow point) or even a permanent ink pen to write on the tags or in inconspicuous areas. So far, so good.

(I prefer not to make more work or spend money for it and we have never had an issue on loosing things.)

I just ordered from namebubbles.com They're a little less expensive than Mables labels. They're very cute and work well. I ordered the laundry safe and dishwasher safe versions. We have everything including gloves, scarves, lunchboxes, cups, coats, and boots labeled with them. The packs include a variety of shapes and sizes to fit any item.

Ditto the Sharpie marker idea. And make sure just to put their last name, so you can hand them down to your next child and so stragers wouldn't see their first name.

I send 2 kids to preschhol and I dont label much..we rarely lose things.. and the school is pretty good about hanging up found items on the bulletin board so someone will claim them.
I did label alot of my moms clothes when she was in the nursing home.. here is a cheap solution..

Buy a sheet of white iron on patches..(it is 8x 10 inches or larger)cut it into small pieces then write on the iron on with a black sharpee..

iron it on and it will stay pretty well..

the labels that I used stayed on throught the nursing home laundry.. and they basicaly boil the laundry...

I just use a Sharpie to write our last name on things.

A little unorthodox, but it worked.....everything had to be labeled (food containers, boots, coats, extra clothes, etc.) I used a P-Touch label maker and labeled everything with those. Oddly enough, they stayed on in the washer and dish washer!
My son is seven and our food containers STILL have his labels on them.

I am glad you asked this question, I have a 4 year old too that I will need to label everything for preschool also. I was going to go with the iron on labels. I bought some iron on labels at Jo Annes fabric store it has a line on the label and comes with a permanent marker to write his name on it yourself. Cost was not very much. I never checked into the mail order label places- maybe I will now to compare prices. I also bought clips for his coat so he (hopefully) won't lose many gloves. Good luck.
