We are thinking about installing a reverse osmosis drinking water system in our new home as we will have well water. Does anyone have this system and do you give your children fluoride supplements? I have 2 kids ages 2 and 3. Thanks.

What can I do next?

I used to work at a water company. Reverse osmosis drinking water systems are wonderful. Talk to your kids' dentist about floride treatments. They would be the ones that have the most up-to-date information about floride. My son used to be on floride treatments when we had well water. It was ok. Just trying to get him to take them regularly was a bit of a struggle, but we managed. Good luck!

Hi R.! I would encourage you to research flouride. There are cities that are completely removing it from their public water systems because it is so dangerous.
I grew up on reverse osmosis water and I have had ONE cavity in my 29 years of life. My hubby and I had a system installed 3 years ago and we don't do flouride supplements. I have seen so many kids with floridosis(sp?) on their teeth(adults too) and it's such a shame that people insist on something that harms our bodies.
I think www.mercola.com has some good reading on the subject.

I live in a small town with no fluoride in the water, and we do the chewables, liquid for the little guy. The fluoride treatment at the dentist office is NOT enough. It has to be ingested. The chewables taste yummy, and the liquid can be added to juice easy. This said, we forget a LOT, and their teeth are still fine!

We have one and have had no problem with our 4 year old's teeth. We love it. Kids get what they need in many other ways. Plus dentist does fluoride treatments at her appointments. HTH

Hello,

Reverse Osmosis is a cleaner system with good filtration, but be sure to check the filter as this too can become an issue. Overall, however, better than well water.
Flouride is one of the most toxic chemicals that we put into our bodies, and unfortunately, willingly. Just read the label... it is poisonous! Flouride competes with calcium for binding sites on your teeth, actually stripping calcium from your bones (teeth), this is called flourosis. The research that supports flouride is outdated and full of holes, yet dentists are offering flouride treatments. Apparently, no one has told them how harmful this is to your child and yourself! Please do the research.
What to do then... buy organic toothpaste.
There are a lot of good products to choose from with antibacterial benefits. A good website to look at is www.icpa4kids.org and put in flouride into the search engine. You will get a lot of information on the harmful effects of flouride.
